Did you drive it home, was it noisy, How did you determine it is not working and how many miles on it?
How mechanical are you? Usually if the diff fails, it is either a broken ring or pinion, a broken spider gear or axle.
First your Land Rover is AWD not 4WD, you must select the Center Diff Lock lever and lock the CDL in order to get work.
Normal rover configuration (daily Driving)
Front diff Open
center diff open
rear diff open
Basically all wheel drive or first wheel to spin, is spins just like any all wheel drive vehicle.
Lock CDL (only when not on hard pavement surface)
Open front
Locked CDL
Open Rear
in this mode you will have power to both front wheels (one may spin)
and power to rear wheels (one may spin)
Basically giving you 2 wheel drive if you get technical about it.
Now if you have lockers front and rear and the CDL locked you have true 4 wheel drive, but turning is very hard and should never be used on pavement or hard road surface.
I trailered it home because the master cly is bad
I did jack the front up and put it in gear
rear drive shaft is not turning
could it be something im not doing,or is the transfer case junk
How mechanical are you?
CDL refers to the locking feature of your t/case.
Try locking your t/case into High Lock and see what happens. then let us know.
thanks for the help
im very mechanical
as far as I know it only has it only 3 spots for the transfer case lever
high netural and low range
and the front is the only thing that spins in either range
it has 115k miles
I know the people that I got it from and they never knew the that the rear didnt work
so
