I threw in the towel and gave up and trying to restore my terribly faded plastics. I used plasti-dip on my side vent last year and it has held up well albeit it doesn't get much contact.

As you can see, I went overboard on masking the truck. When I used the spray lense tint on the side markers, I covered up minimally and ended up with a little overspray on the door and some on the windshield... so I wasn't taking any chances.

All in all, it took most of the time masking and covering with newspapers that I held onto. Would have went quicker if I used plastics or bought something. I then prepped surface with some alcohol on a microfiber towel.

I sprayed on 5 coats, allowing about 20-30 minutes in between. I made sure to get a even and thick coat applied to the paint in between the plastics and tape. I then waited about 3 hours before I started peeling away. I am very pleased with the results and hope that it lasts for a good bit of time... I also sprayed all the lettering as well. I will try and get some pics when its not raining.

That looks great, maybe I'll do that if/when I get an LR4. The painted flares look a little too classy for me. Thanks for posting! How hard was it to mask around the lettering? I just painted mine with a foam brush, looks ok, but up,close is a little rough looking.

The letters were easy... I was really impressed how the dip peeled away underneath the letters. No masking is needed like you would for spray paint. For inside some of the letters, I uesd a toothpick to get a break in the surface and then it peeled right out.

Looks good, I'd be interested in seeing how long it holds up though. I've considered getting mine Line-x'ed but its cost prohibitive...

plasti dip is pretty forgiving and holds up well.

I plasti-dipped my previous vehicles grill, an Acura MDX... couldnt take that 'beak' look so i sprayed it black, leaving just the Acura logo chrome. it held up very well, considering it was at the front of the vehicle where lots of road debris could have hit it.

I'll be driving up to Pittsburgh, PA next month and im sure it will get plenty of abuse during the trip up and back.

How many coats?

How many coats did you do for the lettering? I'm about to do my grill and hood letters. Any pics of your hood letters plastidipped? I sprayed my side vent with a satin krylon spray paint but might go over it with plastidip to tone down the slight shine and to match my fender flares better.

Your truck looks awesome. I like the Tonga Green and wish they offered it on the LR4. On of the main reasons I haven't moved to an LR4 yet is the green is just awful....

All you need is to tint those front windows! ;)
