How bad are the 3 bearing diesels?

I am looking at buying a Series III 1976. It looks great, no rust, not perfect, but all there and solid.

But it has a 3 bearing diesel and from what I've read they're no good...but are they?

Also - the owner said it doesnt have glo plugs, but I believe most automobile diesels do. Looked and it appeared there were glo plugs (wires etc).

So - are the 3 bearings bad and is it possible to NOT have glo plugs?

They have glow plugs and they are not terrible engines - I only have 375,000 miles on my 1966 109 diesel station wagon with one rebuild at about 200,000 miles.
Its slow but balancing the engine will make it run a bit smoother and I've seen 67 mph with the overdrive engaged. (downhill)
