Just heard back from Bill Burke. He said not to worry about changing tires for the training - especially given the road trip that follows. That's good. ;-) Gives me time to sort out what I want to do.

As for tires I would love to use the nearby Discount Tire store as they are only a few blocks away and they have been good to me (and I to them) for the past few years. But they don't have Toyos that I can see. What they do have are:

Michelin LTX M/S 2 LT275/65 R18 E1 123R W (Customer rating 9.2, price $254/tire)
Yokohama Geolander A/T-S LT275/65 R18 C1 113S (Customer rating 8.9, price $225)
BFG All Terrain T/A KO LT275/65 R18 E1 123R W (Customer rating 8.8, price $242 per)
BFG Rugged Terrain T/A LT275/65 R18 E1 123R W (Customer rating 8.8, price $197 per)
Goodyear Wrangler AT/S LT275/65 R18 C1 113S (Customer rating 8.6, price $227)
Falken Rocky Mountain ATS LT275/65 R18 E1 123Q W (Customer rating 8.2, price $205)
Michelin LTX A/T 2 LT275/65 R18 E1 123R W (Customer rating 8.1, price $250)
Nitto Terra Grappler LT275/65 R18 E1 123R B (Customer rating 8.1, price $221)

Those are in order of customer ratings.

I've heard people rave about the Michelin LTX AT.
I'm using Hankook ATm myself which I love.
I wanted to stay close to original weight.
19s + Contis = 70.8lbs
18s + Hankook = 71.6 (plus weight of spacers - which isn't too much probably 2/2.5lbs per).
Kills the mpg a little due to their stickiness.
It was between these or Toyo or Cooper.

Are you sure you're willing to slice into your brand new LR4 which you will have to do if you install 32s???

Well. Quite a few people run the BFG ATs and Nitto Terra's. Umberto runs the Yokos and Scott Brady is running the Rocky Mountains on the OJ LR4.

Nope, I don't want to do anything to my LR4 for these to fit. Is it not possible to get an 18" LT tire which will fit?

I'm not sure what the next smaller size is that is LT rated. Never looked. I want to try to be at that 32" range.

The BFG in 265/65R18 are LT rated and measure 31.7" - not much less than 32" ;) David (finlayforprez) as well as others run these without any rubbing.
Umberto's are smaller than that.
Scott Brady runs close to 33 and had to do plenty of mods to his truck to fit them...
Bushway9172 - Brandon had to make some modifications as well with his 32s.

What Axel said! The 32" mark is iffy. I really just don't care to run BFG AT's. Maybe if the AT2 version comes out soon I will consider them but in the Toyo's the closest LT tire is the 275/65. The 265/65 is a P tire.

Plus the BFG's always run pretty small. Another reason why I try to stay away from them. Besides the un-realistic price they try to charge.

If you were interested in Toyo's my local Discount Tire didnt carry them, but got them in for me plus matched an online sale price from a different company. They have been great and have now patched three different tires of ours at no cost. I run the Toyo ATII in P265/65r18.

So what am I giving up with a "P" vs an "LT"? Sidewall durability? Overall durability?

I saw that Scott has 33's but I think he began with 19" wheels, right?

Being a neophyte at this I don't understand what you mean by "running pretty small". Does this mean they have less tread so the exterior measurements are smaller? The interior measurements (2x5/x5 Rxx) should be consistent, right?
