Although I could have missed it, I have not seen any discussion/releases on the LR5 recently. So I did a search and found this story from February which is probably not a surprise to most of you;

http://releasedate2016cars.com/2016-land-rover-discovery-5/

That seems to indicate that the LR5 will be available THIS YEAR. Is that a UK thing or has anyone heard US availability details? I'm sure LR will be quiet to make sure the dealerships burn through all their LR4 inventory first.

Be curious to know what you've heard. Thanks!

I haven't been following it closely but I can tell you this-- I have never been more glad and relieved to have a stout and smooth-running LR4 in my garage!!

I'll have to see how it is outfitted, but I may buy the Land Rover Discovery 5 Ford Explorer Edition.

They hopefully got a lot of feedback from the previews last year and incorporated some of that. And I'm sure we're not the only ones who pointed out it looks more common and less Land Rovery...

I asked my sales contact for information last week, as I need a full-third row SUV with good offroad capability by the end of the year. Here is his reply:

Code:
[FONT="Arial"][SIZE="2"]Hi Martin.
Just picked up your email from last night.
The latest from Land rover to the dealers is:
The new LR4, Discovery, will be available as a 2017 model.
We will have the specs by the 3rd quarter of this year.
Then the cars will arrive early 2017.

This week we got in our first demo Discovery sport, and also the new Volvo XC 90
Both awesome cars.
If you would like to come by and take a look and or test drive, just let me know.

I will make a note to keep you posted on developments regarding the LR5Discovery.

Have a great weekend.[/SIZE][/FONT]

I have known this sales contact for over a decade and have purchased 4 LR products from him - straight shooter.

Unfortunately, I cannot wait and am ordering a 2016 Suburban with the Z71 package, Lux package, Sun\Ent, and Borla Cat-back exhaust. Will put 275\65-18 Michelin AT2's on it first thing. As to how it does off road - we will see. I mainly need great hill-climbing\descending traction and being able to get through a few creeks. Anticipating scraping a bit. But the offspring love the two screens for the RES (rented a 2015 Yukon XL for two weeks in Kauai), and packing will not be a concern any longer. We will see what happens when the LR5\Discovery finally arrives.

I didn't intend the snark that came through in my comment. I like to see design evolve over time. For instance I think that the way the Disco morphed into the LR3/4 was nicely done. From what we've seen of this new iteration it is more of a paradigm shift than an evolution. That said, I did notice how they incorporated a bit of the asymmetrical rear gate look. At least it got a nod!

My '11 LR4 is the 1st pre-owned vehicle I've ever bought as my own daily driver. I appreciate it more and more the longer I have it. Of course, as soon as one of the guys here shows up with a new model, I'll be one of the first to want to see and hear all about it. :biggrin:

Ahh, thanks much for that. So that is consistent with my expectations that we are over a year out on seeing the car here. The February story made it sound like we might get our hands on something sooner. So I'm back to wondering how long I hold on to my LR3...

That's a good point on the rear gate. They did put a little LR style back in.
You can't tell from the pictures if they made it a two piece (w/ tailgate) or if it is a lift gate. Hoping it's a tailgate...

There is not one linear inch or square foot that I like on that useless crossover you posted. The tailgate "nod" is about ridiculous as fake side vents in the new Range Rovers.

Indeed - I hope that's not a final rendition. I have trouble believing something that nondescript will sell well.
