Yes, that is odd. I see a "capability plus package" available for the HSE that has the rear locker, but it says it is not available with the 7-Seat package or the Capability package, and I do not see any other way to get the air suspension added to the HSE. The package itself does not show as availble online....

In the online "build & price" feature, you can add air suspension, terrain response and 2-speed transfer case to an HSE.

But you can only add a rear locker to an HSE-LUX.

I said this as soon as config pages started showing up. To get an equivalent spec to an LR4, you need to spend huge $$$. The leap in price this new generation is staggering.

It appears you can add the rear locker even on the SE in the UK (but not the base S which we do not get here in the US), so I suspect that the brochure listing it as availble for the SE is a mistake. The US Capability Plus Pack listed for the HSE-LUX does not even include the All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC). That appears to only be available on the First Edition, although I suspect that will change not too long after launch, or for 2018.

I agree...our 2013 HSE-LUX with rear locker, XM radio and roof rails was $65K. My similar 2017 Discovery build is $71K. Of course the Discovery does have some new tech that wasn't available on the LR4. The other vehicle I'm considering is an Audi Q7. A loaded Prestige model with air suspension is also $71K.

...I don't see a way to add a locking rear differential on any trim but the fully loaded HSE Lux. Why? Those who could really put rear lockers to good use may not necessarily appreciate being force-fed 7/8 additional grands of extra fancy leather, 7 standard seats and upgraded indotainment to get it.
That is ludicrous.
As you note, if anything, the more ********* the off road enthusiast, the less glitz they'll want on the car. Land Rover has lost their way....

Do you guys truly expect prices to remain the same as time goes by? 7 years since the introduction of the LR4 (closer to 8 really) and the price goes up... inflation and better equipment will explain most of it and demand will explain the rest.

I can't speak for everybody, but of course the inflation effect is going to be expected.
It's how things are optioned into packages that is odd. Especially for folks who want to option in equipment that was standard on their current vehicles.

But we have a diesel option now! That's huge.

True. However these things that were standards weren't used by the majority of people so in 2014 Land Rover decided to make them optional for better or for worse.
Their strategy is logical why would they offer something that the vast majority of people don't use.
You know this makes me think that most Jeep owners have never taken their Jeep off-road. I even know some that don't know how to switch it from 2wd to 4wd...
Anyway, I'm off topic here.
Still looking forward to seeing the Discovery in person. If the controls feel anything like the Disco Sport some of it will feel cheap.
