Thanks, ryanjl. I had convinced myself that *if* the blue one was in good condition, it was the better purchase. It's been sold though. Dealer has been unresponsive to inquiries until I finally got through and they told me it's gone. Dealers are annoying.

So, for now I'm taking the gamble of transferring up the brown, but will look around in the interim. I can swallow that transfer fee if something better pops up. Probably have a couple weeks as they have some paperwork to get the title ready and such.

Dealers are annoying.

You know it. My wife went to look at a used RR at a dealer a couple years ago and it was in the shop getting pre-sale maintenace done. They took us in to see it on the lift and told us all about its history as it was a local trade. I followed up with them "secretly" the next day (Monday) and spent all week going back and forth and finalizing a price and getting a cashiers check in hand to make it go quick and easy. Saturday morning I decided to tell my wife "hey, let's go get that Range Rover" as a surprise. She asked me if we should let then know we are coming, so I called, but the guy was busy with a customer. After an hour I felt we should just get on the road since we had not heard back. I called again 20 minutes into the drive and find out the guy just sold it right then. And I knew darn well he used the fact that we were on the way to leverage the deal with that other customer.

But, as it turns out a week later a private sale from someone who serviced their car at the same dealer came up and it had the exact color combo my wife really wanted with fewer miles at a better price. So I guess it worked out. The dealer then called me about 2 weeks after that saying another one had just come in if I wanted to come take a look. I was happy to tell him we found one and a better price.

I'm talking to my dealer for both new Discovery inquiries ($70K vehicle) and used LR4s ($40K vehicle). The lack of attention and inept (new) salesmen they direct me to is annoying. The dealership was recently bought by AutoNation. I hear several folks left. I didn't like it to begin with and am not sure if AN is a step-up or step-down.

I do know if a prior customer was coming in motivated to spend $40K-$70K, I'd be culturing that relationship a little better.

Unfortunately, for new vehicles you are stuck with your local dealer as LR uses territories.

For used vehicles, however, you can shop around.

Not to be pessimistic but fleet vehicles are loaners most of the time. The one thing I have to say about LR is that they always hand out very nice loaners. More recently I've been getting fully optioned Jaguars.
Either way it doesn't mean it's a bad vehicle. As you mentioned it means that all maintenance was kept up to date during that time.

You're really lucky. All I get as a loaner is an Evoque. I'm always in good spirits when I get my LR4 back.

We went the other way. I spent about a month in an LR4 loaner last year while my wife's Evoque was in the shop and ended up buying one because I liked it so much.

Our local dealer traded their loaner LR4's for Evoque's, Discovery Sport, and Jaguar XE. I was really not impressed at all with our loaner Discovery Sport.

Yup, it's a risk. It seems to vary greatly by dealer as seen in threads here whenever it comes up. My original dealer would give out base land rovers, which I of course appreciated.
Then they were bought.... they have now always given out whatever enterprise passes on their behalf.

(I did see the new Jag SUVs the other day when I was at the dealership. Those were pretty nice looking. Not something I'd buy, but impressive all the same)
