Saw one at my dealer today.

What's funny about rear quarter shots of this car is that the ass looks 'in your face', but what's even funnier is that in person, that quarter really, actually is IN YOUR FACE.

I test drove one at the weekend and I was really surprised at how light it felt compared with our D4. I didn't think the ride was a smooth and the back end tailgate is a bit of a mess. It opens too high for a garage. But you can limit the height it opens to. Then even a shorty like me risks banging his head. The dealer was telling me how the interior was much more luxurious than the D4 but I didn't feel it somehow. Positive points are the deeper Fridge in the armrest the automatic parking brake on/off and the wristband access feature. However I think I would feel I had been robbed if I had paid €75,000 for one. So that got me thinking...

What I realized is that the pure joy I feel when I get into the D4 was completely missing from the new discovery - it just felt rather bland in comparison! I'm thinking original mini vs new mini or original beetle vs new beetle. No longer iconic and a massive trade off in character in order to be more appealing to soccer moms. The new version has lost its Permagrin magic in my humble opinion.

Because anyone that loves their LR3/LR4 and wants to replace it will have to buy a used LR4. D5 has nothing in common with an LR3/LR4. D5 is for people shopping for a crossover. (X5, Q7 & GL shoppers)

D5 is now a less expensive full size unibody Range Rover for people who wanted a Range Rover but weren't happy with the little room/cargo space it provided. At $75k its a steal for buyers who were about to spend a 100k for a FFRR.
