D5 is now a less expensive full size unibody Range Rover for people who wanted a Range Rover but weren't happy with the little room/cargo space it provided. At $75k its a steal for buyers who were about to spend a 100k for a FFRR.

Except the LWB RR has more usable space for my preferences while retaining the lower tail gate and lift gate that still allows long roof top items such as kayaks, lumber, etc. RR also retains proper high viewpoint seating and higher 2nd row seating & sight lines as well as taller windows/lower sill.

I've spent 75+ a few times on vehicles, 100+ one of those times, but never would on this Discovery 5.

I think you are right about the "steal" there is more space in the D5 than the standard RR, I lookd at both. I have 68k in my build and that has pretty much everything for me less the leather upgrade which I feel wouldn't hold up to my outdoor exploits. And for me I didn't need the "Advanced tow assist" which really jacks the price up.Plus I didn't option the 3rd row which also saved me $$

Finally stopped at the LR dealership in Peabody, MA to have a closer look at the Discovery.
I really like the front, agressive design would look really mean in black or another dark color. The sides are nothing special and the rear is downright ugly to my taste.
Interior is nice but feels cheaper than the LR4 which was closer to the FFRR interior. The rear seats... what can I say we don't have kids so the only time these seats would be used would be by adults. The middle row seats are low and short. No support at all for someone my height (6'2) and the lack of stadium seating is pretty sad. The rear windows definitely don't roll down all the way... what a shame. I didn't even test the third row after that.
The rear tailgate and the absurd little folding bench are just ridiculous and everything but pretty.
After all this disappointment, I definitely didn't take it for a ride.

One more thing if you're seated in the driver seat (probably front passenger too), when folding the rear seat your seat will move forward into the steering wheel... quite unpleasant.

In the end, I don't think this is our next vehicle. We'll either switch brand or buy another product from LR but most likely not a Discovery.

I always felt like the LR4 rear seats were short, maybe I missed it or maybe someone looked at it already but are the seats actually shorter than the LR4s?

Hi AxelR
What did you think of the front armrests in the D5? They seemed to be so flimsy they just made me laugh.

Hi

The whole thing seems to be a slight ripoff.
The one thing that I do like is that there is a lot of storage space and most of it is hidden.

I forgot to mention that I'm not a fan of the leather used in the HSE (demo that I could check). It seems very thing however it is soft to the touch.

How about the steering wheel??? I've never held such a thin wheel in my whole life and I've driven my mother's Fiat Uno back when I leaved in Germany!!! You can tell that they really had women's hands in mind when making it which I don't have any problem with but it makes me hate something as important as the steering wheel which is truly the one thing that always have at least one hand on in a car... bad move.

Yes the dealer was telling me that the D5 is even more luxurious than its predecessor but even he wasn't really convinced.

There are a few positives with the D5 I loved the wristband access and the cubby holes the cool box in the armrest is much deeper too. Oh and the automatic parking brake was a useful improvement. On balance I'm going to stick with my LR4 for a very long time

Yes, seems like a developing market for an LR4 "Life Extension" program.

I'm sure some improvements, but has anyone ever used their rear bumper as a step to reach the roof? Not quite an option on the D5.
