So, is anyone on the forum driving one of these new rides yet? Seems strangely quiet.

I don't think anybody owns one. They appear to be stacking up at the local dealership.

By the sales figures, they have sold 1400 already, not including July - but the demographics may be completely different than the LR4 - perhaps the intitial wave of buyers are less "forum" oriented. Or everyone is just on summer vacations :burnout:

From what I read on another LR forum, the TD6 discovery is being ordered by people that currently own an aging Touareg TDI. I can see where the Discovery is a good choice if coming out of a Touareg. And if you're a fan of diesel, there aren't many options left in the US.

I agree, the new Discovery appeals to a non-enthusiast that isn't interested in an adventure/off-road enthusiast forum. Maybe they are on a forum for people that prefer trips to malls, or maybe posts about how much stuff you can pack into your SUV at Costco. Maybe that is why the 3-zone AC doesn't have any vents in the way back. Unlike my dog, the items you purchased and packed in the way back don't need AC. And the coil spring suspension is adequate for carrying retail items.

I picked up a HSE about a week ago. I'm really impressed with how it rides and how quiet it is. No road noise, wind noise, and surprisingly very little engine noise. You only hear the supercharger when getting on it. Both acceleration and braking are super smooth as well. It's a lot of fun to drive. It leans a little on corners being so high up but not too bad. The Meridian sound system is ok but could be better. Sound on HD radio isn't nearly as good as my Pacifica minivan which doesn't have the upgraded sound system. Also while the Incontrol system works fine they need to add more options and improve the interface. Some of the buttons are small which is strange as the screen has plenty of room to make them bigger. When you are listening to radio it doesn't show you your favorites to easily change stations. Little annoyances like that here and there but nothing that is a deal breaker. The steering wheel is thin feeling which even my mini van feels much better than this. Even my wife pointed out how strange it was to have such a thin streering wheel. The car cools off quickly and the cooled seats work very well. I will be towing a 6000lb camper in a week so I'm nervously excited to see how it handles. The system that sets speed and manages engine braking was a nice feature I didn't realize it had. Seats are comfortable but a tad firm on the bottom as pointed out in some reviews. We looked at almost every SUV on the market before deciding on this and I've owned models such as Jeep Grand Cherokees, Hummer H2/H3, Escalade, etc. and this blows them all away with how composed it is for such a capable vehicle. You can't even compare this to a Volvo XC90 which has noticeable road noise and is underpowered and limited to 5K towing. Hopefully LR will tweak Incontrol a bit to improve it but otherwise there isn't much I would change.

Congrats on the new ride!

Thanks for sharing the initial feedback.

Let us know how it handles the upcoming trailer trip and how the family likes it as you go. The main draw for the D5, for me, was the updated electronics. I found that even when I drove a Discovery Sport loaner last month I appreciated the electronic features over what my 2013 LR4 has.

I'm a big fan of technology as well and it won't let you down. Some reviews have noted the Incontrol system seems sluggish but it is fine for me. I think there was an update prior to final customer units shipped out but I could be wrong. I have the 360 camera system and it works great. It comes with a sticker you on your trailer which helps it configure trajectory when you hook it up so that will be interesting to see how it works. Having the air suspension lower 1.5 inches when you shut off the vehicle is nice too. There are so many features to learn and again they could improve a few things on Incontrol but it works and does what you need.

Congrats on your new Discovery! I came so close to ordering one but the reduced number of AC vents with the 3-zone HSE-LUX AC scared me off. (3-zone LR4 AC has ceiling vents & 3rd row vents) I see that you ordered the 4-zone AC...smart move! I also didn't want the metallic windshield since it would jam my radar detector. However, someone mentioned there is a clear glass area in the windshield near the visor...is that correct?
