largest tire with no lift

Jomcool, any chance you could post a picture from front or back showing how tucked in the G2s are? i just bought a 2nd LR4 to mod (same 20" black rims) and was about to buy some used 18" LR3 wheels and spacers to get some more side wall, but may hold off and try the G2s. it's a nice look.

Anyone with 285s: How is the drive ability with these? At this size the gearing has been effectively raised almost 8%. That is significant and must hurt performance I would think.

@ktm525 I'm running 285s and here are my thoughts:
  • Ride Quality - I sometimes feel some of the smaller bumps on the road now. More grip when cornering. Braking slightly improved. When the tire shop had installed the tires they inflated to 44psi (above recommended pressures, I have no idea why they did this) the steering felt much more positive and lively... almost sporty. However the ride quality suffered significantly and I felt EVERY bump on the road highway. There was even some harmonic vibration coming through the steering column at times. Road noise was definitely noticeable. Dialing the psi to 2psi below the door sticker brought back that comfy LR4 ride and feel.
  • Noise Level - A little road noise coming into the cabin. Slightly noticeable but not at all annoying by any means. You have to listen for it. Radio quickly solves this issue. :rock: There is also some slight rubbing at full lock (when turned to passenger side).
  • Performance - I haven't noticed any difference in performance at all. But, I also don't push my car to the limits. Highway on ramp sprints feel just as fast as I remember.
  • MPG - About a 1-2mpg drop in the city. I haven't given it a full highway run yet. Happy to report back when I do.
I was able to fit a full size spare under truck but I did have to remove the plastic exhaust shroud and deflate the tire. I also managed to get my hitch adapter to slide into the receiver (I had to press on the tire a bit).

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the tire and am looking forward to seeing what it can do on some light off-road trails.

@mrezo The ride looks great! Thanks for detailing the mods made on the spare. I’m curious on a few points. What pressure are you able to run on the spare? Does it require carrying a can of tire repair to inflate it if needed? Any concerns with removing the plastics shrouds? And, are you just ignoring the TPMS warning at start up or did you use a tool to override it? Thanks.

If you need to deflate a spare, the best solution is to get a portable air compressor. I have this one (but there are lots of others that are similar): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BM8RT8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The portable air compressor has proven to be more handy than I thought it would. It comes in a cheap little bag, and can be stored in the dead space behind the second row of seats and under the folded third-row seats (sort of where the footwell would be for the third-row seats). Pulling the trigger soon, so torn between going 265 or 285. Fully stock LR4.

EDIT: Turns out I have 19" wheels, not 20" as I thought. No Nitto's in 19".
Anyone running stock 19's with a more aggressive tire?

EDIT PART II: ugh, looks like the only options (other than switching to different size wheels) is Copper Zeon or Wrangler Duratracs.

@Rover 4 Here are a few pics of 265s. The photos suck a little but you’ll see that the 265/50/20 G2s are pretty well tucked in like the factory size. The chunkiness of the tire makes them appear wider, but they are only marginally different than stock. The biggest difference I see is a little more wheel protection with sidewall bulge and some slightly increased road noise.
