Ok, so this is my first post even though I have been lurking for 3 months. I literally read that whole LR4 tire thread twice from start to finish to learn everything I needed about the LR4 That long thread

In any case, that is not why I am here.

I am here because my 2011 LR4 LUX sound system with the 17 speaker Logic7 upgrade mumbojumbo sounds like crap. I know it sounds like crap because when I step into my wifes RRS SC 2011, hers sounds magical.

So I have combed the internet about how to fix this; always with the same results. (cant be done well, can be done if you build a whole second system, can be done if you just want to add an amp and subwoofer and change out speakers... etc... I even went to my local auto audio store with the rear subwoofer (I was fixing the tailgate latch at the time) and asked him what is the best thing I can replace my subwoofer with. He took it from my hands, held it in front and said 'this'.

Literally 10 minutes ago, I came across THIS

Has anyone seen this before? Or installed one? I cant even find it on the JL site

I can tell you from experience there are two things that can be done that are not a huge investment or require a system redesign.

1- add sound damping to all the doors. cheap investment, and easy to do. Makes a huge difference.

2- change rear sub out for a low profile 10" (pioneer seems to be preferred, but i use an alpine). Seal the rear tail gate, and deaden the crap out of it. I uses three layers of dynamat, and 2 cars of spray on bed liner. The tail gate is much heavier, but sound significantly better. I didn't even swap out the factory sub amp yet.

Do i need to do any special wiring to get the new alpine/pioneer subwoofer in? The LR one had 2x plugs that I have never seen before.

Thanks for your help.

Cut the connector off, and wire direct.
If you are not going to install an uprated amp, then go with the Pioneer, it's a bit more efficient.
You will need to make an adapter plate for it to fit properly. I made mine out of MDF.

It's on the JL website here, but appears to be a discontinued item? Looks pretty sweet though, if you could find one somewhere. Owner's manual with installation photos available at this link:

You never elaborated on how exactly the stock system sounds like crap. Does it just lack the bass response you want? Or does it have lousy imaging, poor mids / highs, distortion, etc, etc? Hard to be of any help without more details.

The tweeters sound tinny. The mids sound flat. There is no surround sound to speak of, its more like a home theater system in a car where the sound comes from the front center speaker (logic 7 on), and the other speakers sound distant (like waiting for the movie to have some gun fire or something). There is no distortion. The sub-woofer is so weak that cranking the bass up so that the other speakers can assist causes those same speakers to do a job they were not meant to do... consequently harming the mid and tremble quality further.

Don't get me wrong, the sound is not horrible. Its just no where near good. Especially since hopping into my wife's RRS SC 2011 makes my expectations for good sound pretty high.

In any case, I bought a bunch of Dynamat. I am doing what jaguardoc recommended: Dynamat everything and get the Alpine so I can look into a better amp later.

I don’t have my lr4 anymore but I have posted my install on the forum if you search. Also, Mobrige now has a digital connection that lets you get the signal from the fiber HU to run to an amp. Go that route. Dynamat is a must on these doors as they are very well sealed but can sound hollow OEM. I had the HK logic7 and replaced front speakers and added sound processor, amp and sub. Good luck
