I am back to learn even more on the LR4 from you all :)

Interesting this week, I have the front driver side brake appear to be completely done while the front passenger side is fine. I say appear because I am taking the wheels off tomorrow for a good look. I put on about 1000 km last week on a trip and noticed the intermittent squeaking. Heavy snow and ice in Canada so did not notice it until I had windows down in the city for a minute.

Brakes were done 24 months at the dealer by the previous owner. About 24000 km since then.

I have never been ******* brakes but I get the heavy vehicle, bigger tires for last 5-7000 km etc. but anyone had any caliper issues that might contribute to this.

Not gonna change things so just wondering.

I recently had a rear caliper that seized. It quickly destroyed the pads. I blame the corrosion on winter and road salt. In addition to a new caliper, I had new rotors and pads installed on both rears just to keep both sides of the rear brakes consistent.

Make sure the caliper pins are clean and lubed. There are two pins. One has a rubber grommet and one does not. They have specific locations.

I have a rear rim that has surface damage to the finish. This is on my preowned LR4 and my mechanic thinks it may have been caused by a seized caliper that was driven to the point that molten metal showered down onto the rim (by the previous owner). The damage pattern makes this a plausible theory. I will keep an eye on this and remember the caliper pin tip when I get my next brake service.

Check out my earlier thread about 15 posts earlier.
“Burning smell coming thru heat vent”
The brakes were seizing unevenly.

Just did my wife's 2015 first brake change. It's coming on three years old and has about 24,000 miles. My wife is probably the easiest person on a vehicle I have ever met. Coasts into stop signs, doesn't speed, etc. I just caught the fronts a nose hair before the sensor touched the rotor. By comparison, all 4 pads (L,R inboards and L,R Outboards) where almost exactly the same.

The brake job (sans rotors) is pathetically easy on these. If you have a power driver like I do and a floor jack, it's an hour job. As someone pointed out, make sure the pins are lubed and also make sure their is lube on the channels the pads clip into and on the end of he pads that fit into the channel. Obviously, you don't want to smear it on there, a thin film is sufficient. Google, "brake pad lube" and you'll see a ton of videos on why/how you should do that.

For sure you should replace both sides.
