New to LR and and LRWorld!

Just got a 15’ LR4 HSE LUX...

I need roof rails, racks and possible additional racking equipment to best utilize that space up there on long hauls.

A lot of options out there. Who’s is the best? Probably going for black Powder coated.

Welcome! You will love your new Landy and congrats on getting a current and future classic LR4.

Re roof racks, suggest you curl up with your search function and treat yourself to endless reams of archived forum discussions. No such thing as "best" as it depends on your individual needs, taste, garage clearance, load types, and budget, but some great options out there. Narrow things down a bit and the input you get from the group will be more relevant.

Welcome and have fun.

If you consider OEM Roof Rails, they come in Short and Long versions, Chrome or Black. The short just covers the high portion of the roof, the long goes most of the way to the drivers head area. You choose your length based on what you want to carry up there and how long it is. The OEM Cross rails are nice but sometimes very noisy. You can save $$$ by buying them on eBay. I should point out that there no provision to anchor your load to the Roof rails as they are solid. You can only anchor them to the Cross Rails. LR makes a nice set of Cross Rail anchors that slide into the slots across the top of the cross rails. Again, you are just tying your load to the cross rails and not to the roof rails. You can also buy an OEM Expedition rack, again big $$$$, but heck if you bought an LR4 you can swing it it only money. At least that's what I tell my wife when I bought her the 2016 LR4 HSE!!!!

Does anyone make a short, very flat rack that will install into the OEM roof rails and sit very low, almost against the glass roof? I have searched and cannot find what I’m looking for. My LR4 just barely makes it into my work parking garage with about 2” of roof clearance, so I can’t get any roof rails or racks that are taller then that. I suppose I could lower the vehicle into creep mode to go into the garage, but I really just need something that is weight bearing (so that I’m not putting stuff right on top of the glass roof) that will allow me to put stuff on top and tie down to the roof rails, using rail ties. Some kind of recessed or flat rack if you can picture that. Thank you.

I did an incredible amount of research looking for something super low and the Prospeed and Frontrunner were the lowest I could find without going custom.

Yes I had to always lock it in low creep mode for my garage at the time.

I think the prospeed is actually a tiny bit lower overall then the frontrunner.

Good luck with your search though. If you want I can give you different total heights with my frontrunner tomorrow.

I bought this Front Runner 3 bar rack which fit my needs perfectly. They also sell a short version that is just the front. Or, as nymoto mentioned, you could get the full deck up there as well. Very versatile.

REVIEW; Front Runner 3 Bar Roof Rack (Load Bar Kit)

For me, I was very close to buying the ProSpeed, but there was not an easy way for me to attach a storage box to it. It was so low that there wasn't enough clearance below the cross bars for my Yakima clamps to slide through, or something like that.

Enjoy your new rig! It's awesome.
