55k had them done at the dealer under warranty. Very brief chatter on startup. I was thrilled they did it. Oil changed every 5k miles so I’m skeptical it has anything to do with oil.
I think the failure at low miles has actually been the tensioner ratchet mechanism which is designed to keep...
I had the Coopers for about 25k miles and they got really loud after 15k. Could have been less than religious rotations...
They’re beasts off road though and for that price I’m really tempted to put a set in storage.
Just put on continental terrain contacts. Very happy with them so far. Obviously the noise level is great compared to the cooper xeons which became unbearably loud but with still had a ton of tread left. No off road use yet but I think they’ll be decent for everything except the mud.
I’ve had the same sound on very cold mornings. I’m fairly certain it’s related to the fan clutch. There was a thread a while ago and it was the fan clutch. Also if you lookup ticking fan clutch on YouTube you’ll find various makes and models with the same noise.
I just had the timing job done under warranty. 2012 with 52k miles. I had a few seconds of chatter at startup. Runs probably a little better than before. Dealer had it for three days.
I was looking at what was involved doing it myself and it’s a through dismantling of the front of the truck...
Thanks for the feedback. They’re really only going to be used for a roof bag at this point and maybe twice a year. I’d like to have a reason to get a full rack but don’t have a good one yet.
Andbody have any experience with the eBay/Amazon knockoff roof rails?

I’m looking for a black set.
Thanks
I have about 2k miles on Hawk LTS pads and feel is about the same as stock with basically no dust. Some slight squeaking at very low speeds but that could be my rears too.
I agree. The noise is acceptable for a few thousand miles. After that you can’t say they’re anything close to being quiet.
I have about 15k on mine with plenty of tread and can’t take the noise much longer. They are unstoppable off road though.
Some 5.0 have had timing chain guide issues. It's not catastrophic but not cheap to fix. Water pumps are another issue. I haven't heard of any other weak spots on the 5.0.
Check out RSW solutions on YouTube. He has a two part series on the 5.0 timing chain issue.
