If I remember right, they did the same thing (with the silver edition at least) for the Range Rover Sport before the 2014 model came. They had that mid-year 2013 change and offered that updated version. I actually was looking on the website and found it interesting they used the word "Discovery" at the top. Also, I have to say, I like those real tan seats, they look great!!!

Yeah, I was at a dealer in L.A. the other day to get some coolant and saw plenty o new LR4s on the lot, unlike the past year or two. My understanding is that there may be a MY2017 as well, so this is not quite if for the LR4 yet.

Anyone know for sure if this is the end or not?

As umbertob had mentioned, there was a 2017 listed on Topix, but it has since disappeared. Still, if it is accurate that production of the new Discovery is slated for June 1 2017, then I cannot see how there would not be a 2017 as well. Plus they have all these other factories to worry about in Brazil and Slovaki, I cant imagine they can get it all pulled together any sooner.

It will be nice to globally get back to the Disco name. Never did like the LR designation.

I am in an X5 now. Should have bought the LR4 instead but that cannot be changed right now. Want to get into the LR4 while it is still a truck. We have a Wrangler for off roading but would love an LR4 for more expedition type offroading.

Have had every generation Pathfinder. The first ones were brute trucks and very capable. Each year they neutered a little bit. The current one is a nice car but far from the heritage of the Pathfinder. Is the LR4 going that route?

represented the literal "end of an era" for Land Rover and the LR4 was the last "...true to its roots Land Rover in North America."

That is until the NEW Defender hits our shores at which his asinine remark will be proved complete BS.

I have a feeling many on here will be clamoring to be Defender owners. As fans of the LR4, it would make sense.

Relax hand wringers, all will be right in Land Rover World soon enough.

Well, the LR4 replacement (Discovery) will be more capable than anything else in its class by a lot...BUT it won't be an LR4 so I guess it's going the same route as Pathfinder........?????... Uh, no it's not. LOL
However....while the LR4 is a great truck, relax, the Defender will be here soon enough. Just sayin...

They have a plan guys..literally something for everyone.

Looks to me like th3 LR5 is a licensed and rebadge Ford Explorer. JLR is going to have to go down market with the price on that thing as the average person is not going to be able to tell the difference between the two.

Who wants to pay $70k for a glorified Explorer?

Have you driven an Exploder lately son? We got our Discovery Sport HSE Lux out of the body shop on Feb 4rth after a month without it. We were stuck in a Furd Exploder rental for that month. It was a Limited trim model, so it was about as nice and loaded as Exploders come. Brand new to boot. $50K price tag if you care to buy one...
I can garan-frickin-tee you that NO Land Rover vehicle is a glorified Exploder. Make no mistake folks, even Land Rovers entry level compact SUV is on another level. :hello:

We couldn't wait to get the hell out of that POS Exploder and back into our Disco Sport.

Look, I know folks are crying the blues about the LR4 being gone, and yes, it sucks, yes it's a hard pill to swallow..but let's try to stay inside the realm of reality huh? :stupid:

Glorified Exploder????...LO F'ing L

Every new Land Rover since the Evoque has been ridiculed as a glorified Explorer, especially the 2014+ Sport. Superficially, there are definitely design traits in common: all recent LR designs and platforms, including the upcoming Disco 5, were penned by Ford engineers several years ago, well before the brand was sold to Tata. The Ford Fusion looks almost exactly like an Aston Martin DB9 from a rear view mirror for - same reason, Ford used to own AM until a few years ago. Yet, the Aston Martin is (allegedly) a much better car overall, probably worht the extra 200K or so. Land Rovers are still selling quite well, I guess lots of people are able to look beyond the "glorified Explorer" stereotype.

Before jumping to conclusions without having even seen or sat into a Disco / LR5, perhaps we should give Land Rover the benefit of the doubt? So far they seem to be doing quite well with their massively expensive Explorer look-alikes.
