Sorry I didn't respond quicker...I just saw this reply...to answer your question - I have not purchased these tires yet but I know that my '06 doesn't have the 2" knob that the later models '08 and above do and I was planning on running 2.5" rhino rods full-time so just the normal rubbing in reverse is expected - maybe some full compression rubbing off road so might modify the inner fender linings (or just let them rub) and I'll have to relocate the wire loom on the drivers side...other than that I think the rubbing will be minimal for day to day use.

Not sure what I'm going to do about the spare tire though...probably just get a roof rack and mount it up top or a tire carrier...as from what I understand there is really no way to mount it on the bottom...

I'll post pics once I get it all hooked up if that's the route I end up going...

Do what you want but the rods full time is a bad idea. Actually it's just plain dumb.

Do the mods you mentioned and they become completely a waste of $.

Install a LLAMS electronic interface and be much more versatile, safer, less vehicle parts wear, happier.

Bumping this informative thread. Changed the tires out on my truck today. I got a massive gash in one of my 285/60/18 Nitto Dune Grappler tires. They do not make this size tire anymore and I wasn't interested in mixing / matching tires so I went ahead and replaced all 5. They got 3 solid years of use, so I am pretty happy with that.

New tires, I have gone to the tried and true 265/65/18 BFG T/A KO2. I will say, they are much quieter on the street and seem to soak up bumps a hell of a lot smoother. So far, on road, I am pretty pleased with these tires.

One concern: I did not notice until I was home in the driveway, but these are only load rated D. I swore the 265/65/18 tires were E rated. I even went to the BFG website and they do not even list a D load tire for the T/A KO2s. It only says E load rated. Are these tires legit? Why are they this undocumented rating?

I do not tow anything, so I am not worried about that so much as I am curious where these tires came from when BFG doesn't even list them on their full availability chart.

I would think that the only reason to get 18" wheels is the availability of E-rated tires. That said, if you don't ever encounter sharp rocks or haul/tow heavy loads, they're probably unnecessary.

Make sure you didn't pay for E-rated tires, though. If you did, or it was otherwise represented to you that E-rated was what you were getting, I would raise a stink.

100% sure I have 265/65/18 TA KO2 with a big "D" load rating stamp on the sidewall.

(I wanted the 285/60s, but they would take 2 months to special order in this country)

I'd take a picture of the sidewall and send it to BFG, requesting an explanation. Don't know if there is such a thing as counterfeit tires, but who knows... Having said that, a D load range is still a tough cookie of a tire, 8-ply (instead of 10) and with a max load pressure of 65 psi (vs. 80 for the E load), most likely lighter and bit more comfy as well. Still, if you paid the extra bucks for a E-load tire you should get an E-load tire.

That's hard to say because everything is overpriced here. I think I will email BFG customer support and ask some questions. The last thing I want is counterfeit tires. The place I bought them from is the sole distributor of BFG tires in Qatar though, so it seems highly unlikely.

Ah right, I keep forgetting you are not in the US. In that case, BFG may very well have different spec tires for your country / market area. The link above is for US spec tires only, which may or may not be available elsewhere in the world (and vice-versa.)

PS: I make a motion that the redesigned forum should have a mandatory "Location" field, to be included under the member's avatar when posting on one of the boards. The field is already in our profile, under "Personal Details" (I just filled out mine), but most members don't fill it out as it is not a requirement. It should be.
