I really don't want to sound (read) like the dumb girl here; but I just got a 2006 LR3 HSE and it has a big hole in the dash where the sound/Nav/DVD system should be. I would like to get a pretty fancy, wifi capable stereo/dvd system without braking the bank.

Any guidance on where to get a system and which one is the best (or really good)?

I appreciate the information!!

You may have to post a picture. On my '05 the screen/nav is up top and below that is the stereo which is integrated into the entire center console.

If I were you, I'd put an iPad mini in that hole and hard wire it to power and run the sound to a stereo. You'd get all you need with a much better interface for the money than you could buy elsewhere. I've seen people do it before. The iPad mini is just the right size for that NAV screen opening.

Good luck!

Mine came without the nav screen. I have a magnetic mount (a Garmin bean bag mount and a magnet/ball mount from Amazon) sitting in that space and use my iPad or iPhone with a bluetooth adapter plugged into the rear seat power port and connected to the Aux In. The phone automatically hooks up to the bluetooth once the car is running and the audio is acceptable. The phone works quite well as an entertainment/navigation solution, and you take it with you when you get out so it's not interesting to thieves. I can see a iPad Mini (with LTE data) or iPhone 6 Plus would work well too.

Thank you all! I hadn't thought about using my iPhone or iPad and agree that is probably the best (and much cheaper) option. I really appreciate the guidance. Now I just need to figure out exactly how to do that and fix the front/back-up sensor system that was broken when the valet backed into a pole.. (ACK)... :)

Can't help you with the back up sensor, but the while the Bluetooth adapter I have is no longer available, Belkin makes one that looks reasonable ($20 from Amazon). It took me a while to figure out the mount - I went through several. The Garmin beanbag + ball mount + magnetic mount works pretty darned well - all parts are available at Amazon of course. Good luck!

Actually, come to think of it, the back up sensor you can buy from Atlantic British and they even have a video of how to change it, if I recall correctly...
