OK, now I want that lighting technology for my home theater. I need to catch-up on these things, my kid's sports and activities currently consume all my spare time. :)

I like the idea of the Echo better. Then I don't need to even move my arm! Nor do I need to worry about someone moving the remote a couple of feet away in which case I would need to get out of my Lazy Boy recliner to retrieve it. Easier to just ask Alexa to do everything.

So what Land Rover really needs to do to be innovative is add secure voice recognition with a range of at least 50 yards. Then instead of fumbling for my phone with my arms full of groceries I can just yell across the parking lot, "Hey, Lara, configure the seats for the 3 kids, leave one rear seat down for the groceries, start the engine and set the temperature to 70 degrees and start 'Frozen" on the rear entertainment system."

We were traveling this morning in 2 vehicles and I was about half a mile behind my wife who was driving our LR4. I loved the fact that it was very easy to pick her out of the traffic on the busy highway because of the unique shape of the truck. I'm guessing that will no longer be possible with a Disco 5.

As for the "typical" LR4 driver, in our area (south Denver) it is very rare to see a late model LR4 that is used off road. I would continually get comments at the dealership, and elsewhere, something like, "Wow, its so cool to see you actually using your LR4 for what it was designed." And most of the drivers are women though it feels more like 60-40. The Land Rovers that are taken off road tend are nearly always used and often LR3s or Discoverys or earlier model RR.

I had noticed that LR is certainly not alone with the flattened, more "aerodynamic" body style. I noticed yesterday that the Honda Passport, which used to be boxy, is almost indistinguishable in the new, rounder, flattened body style. When I bought my 2014 Acura MDX it was definitely lower and sleeker. They even dropped the ground clearance by an inch. And they sell like hotcakes around here. And, BTW, there are a lot of Ford Explorers around here as well. Even my 2016 Land Cruiser feels a bit lower. So what LR is doing is pretty much consistent with the trend of the past few years.

Then, as I am sitting in Starbucks right now, this just drove past me in the drive through lane. Yep, orange accents everywhere.

Not bad looking, just not a fan of the orange wheels. :p

And Land Rover has diluted it now by making it look like the poorman's Range Rover Sport.

I think the Disco5 looks like an overpriced Ford SUV now. Looks almost identical in body shape, lights, etc. What a F-cking bore.

I still have my 2004 Disco II with just 91,000 miles and the 2007 LR3 with 121,000 miles. I'd love some ventilated seats & the 8spd+TDV6 but that cargo interior I will bet you sort of sucks compared to the LR3/4.

My LR3 is currently a "3 seater and has a permanently mounted Freezer/fridge in 2nd row center. How much of a PITA will it be to remove seats and reconfigure the Disco5 into something useful for a real traveler...? Likely too much to bother with :(

It will probably be like the new Range Rover, and have the side airbags connected to seats, which means you need to jumper everything, further increasing the PITAness.

I think you misunderstood me entirely. I would not be trying to move the front seats. Unless, do you mean the new full size RR has side/torso airbags in the 2nd row seats now? I do think if you disconnected any of that, the safety system would be unahappy and at least annoy you constantly with warning messages.

According to the LR brochure, there are 8 air bags in the 7 seater, just like our lr3 and lr4 have:
2 front
2 front torso (side body mounted in seat)
2 curtain 1st-2nd row
2 curtain 3rd row

I have just been thinking that it might be difficult to fit a snorkel to the new Discovery I think the increase in standard wading depth comes at a price the side vents are now fake and the actual air intake is through vents underneath the hood as in the RR and RRS
