What are the chances of being hit twice by what sounded like a rock in less then 6 weeks? Both times windshield needed to be replaced. Both replacement windshields were from LandRover and installed from Safelite. Could it be from the design of the vehicle or just bad luck? Also, would a wind/bug screen on the hood help protect the windshield? My deductible for each occurence is $200 : (

Bad luck. I got hit by a stone less than a year into my ownership, same deductible as you through my insurances comprehensive coverage. Haven't had any issues since (going on 4 years), knock on wood. It's a big windshield and it's kinda upright compared to more aerodynamic SUVs..., but it's mostly bad luck.

Yep, agree with that. I **** WAY more bugs in my LR4 than I have in any other vehicle. Seems the angle is more vertical and better for smashing things or getting smashed. I just replaced a windscreen that cracked going thru a car wash from a micro rock chip below the wipers. $1100 for OEM glass and labor. My insurance (State Farm) wanted me to go to their glass replacement network but their guy recommended I go OEM so they paid up for the Land Rover Glass.

Mine was cracked within 20 miles of purchasing it. Bad luck. I'm waiting until after this winter to replace it. I had safelight try to fix the star, but they made the crack about 6x worse. Which of course is a risk of chip/star repair.

I believe that the angle of our windshield makes it more prone to damage when hit by a rock at highway speeds compared to other cars.
I had a windshield replaced on 2011 LR4 just few months after purchasing a car. On our current 2013 LR4 we had a windshield replaced twice already.
BTW I just had to get a new windshield for my Audi S4 too.
If you drive in the area where there is lots of constructions , gravel driveways or just in the desert sooner or later it will happen. At least in AZ glass deductible is $0.00.

$1100 is cheap! my BMW was $1300. I'd think the LR4 windshield would be more expensive due to the integrated defroster

Add me to the long list of new Range Rover owners (just under 2K miles) who have experienced a cracked windshield for the first time in 40 years of car ownership. At first I thought “**** happens” and it’s my dumb luck. But we never heard to sound of being struck by a rock or pebble. Then I found this forum. We have the tiniest shard of glass (a few hair widths wide and no more than 1/16 of an inch long missing along the crack quite close to the drivers side pillar. Coincidentally we used the windshield heater for the first time just 3 days before the crack appeared. Mysterious??!! Not according to many posts here. The one thing that’s not mysterious, his range rovers textbook reaction: “Must be a rock. Not a manufacturer’s flaw”. How many of these incidents need to happen before they’ll consider that there’s something in the design or installation or quality of their glass that leads to a much higher incident of breakage than any car manufacturer that I’ve googled?

I use my heated windshield on a daily basis in the winter and don't have a crack. You used it 3 days before and you think there's some sort of connection? What have you found that makes you think here's a higher incident of cracked windshields on Rovers versus other vehicles?

And you are on the LR4 forum, not the Range Rover forum.

Driving on Houston freeways is hell on windshields.

I own 6 cars, and I think only 1 doesn't have at least a chipped windshield.

I don't bother fixing them unless it becomes an issue with passing the state safety inspection.
