I'm a fan of Nokian WRG3s and am running them now. Good thing because we're headed to snowy Michigan next weekend.

I don't know much about CR's rating system but found it odd that a score of 66/100 is considered "very good".

Here's a quick compare from Consumer Reports. The LTX is their highest rated SUV all season. The Nokian rates well too. I threw in a tire I haven't heard a lot of discussion around but does offer a 255/55R19 size - Firestone Destination LE2. I rarely think of Firestone, but it was rated pretty high.

The LTX tires in this report (LTX M/S) are a different tire than the Premiere LTX tires you can get in the standard LR4 sizes.

When I was shopping around One service advisor told me the Premiers are an excellent road tire but not meant for more than a hard packed dirt/gravel road or the occasional wet grass situation. He told me the LTX M/S can be taken off road on the occasional rutted path/light mud. Since I went to Compo's I got the LTX M/S and have been very happy with those. Quiet, excellent ride comfort, and wet/dry traction. Our roads got covered with snow Friday night and the tires weren't phase at all. I drove as normal as possible and felt no slips or loss of traction.

When I need to, I will replace these with All Terrains. Until then, the LTX M/S fit my needs.

Good luck!

Very pleased with the Nokian WRG3, heading into our second winter and they've been great all year round. Quite, good ride and great traction. Left them on for a very hot summer and no significant wear yet. I've had similar experience with Nokian's ********* snows (Hakka R) over 5+ years. Only thin holding them back here is better name recognition and distribution.

I have the Firestone on mine. They were what I'd consider probably 75-80% tread. They're what I'd call an acceptable tire. They aren't loud, they do pretty well in all conditions that I've encountered, but they don't seem to excel at anything. Seem to be wearing fairly evenly. They do flat spot pretty bad when cold, and I don't live in the cold - I'm from GA, so "cold" to me is 25F at worst outside, and probably 50-55F in the garage where it sits. Even at those temps if it sits for two or three days you're riding through lumps for the first mile or two as they warm up. I won't replace them with same, but I'm not disappointed in them.
