Zombie thread resurrection here.

My 2013 LR4 started displaying "Smart Key Battery Low". My entire User Manual is in Arabic.

I am reading AxelR's post:
"Press the top little black release button on the top side (opposite to the key ring).
At the same time pull on the metal side with key ring attached to it. Battery tray is in there.
"

I am not seeing any battery release button. Any further help on this would be appreciated!

Eh.. kinda figured it out with Google image search. (YouTube is blocked here)

Thankfully, I have a whole stash of CR2032 batteries at work too! Job done.

For what it is worth, there is no button or battery tray on this 2013 key fob. You basically pry the two halves of plastic apart to get to the inside PCB with battery slotted in. Then swap the battery and snap the two halves of your fob back together.

Just an update. Battery went again. Just curious how often you guys replace yours? This is twice now on a 3 year old truck.

I replaced mine about 9 months ago for the first time (after 2 years and change) when I started getting that message, did both fobs as I figured the spare one couldn't be far behind even though I never use it. Some drugstores here sell CR2032 batteries that have been on their shelves for months, or even years... That may be part of the problem. Check the expiration date and make sure it's at least 3 or 4 years away if possible.

I just changed mine also, not quite 3 years of use. I also had to buy the $20 kit from a LR dealer because I had the peeling issue on my daily use fob.

What is this $20 kit you mention? I haven't seen mention of it and don't have a dealer very close. One of mine lost the rubber entirely and I repaired it with a very thin layer of gasket sealant so it's stuck back on there, but the rubber is still a bit stiff and kind of stretched bigger than it should be. It looks perfectly fine and nobody would know I fixed it, but it feels a little janky to me because I know.

The replacement key fob cover for a 2013 LR4 is part number LR078922. I purchased one today at the dealer for $12.95. It is very simple to take the existing fob apart, pull the circuit board, put it into the new case and reassemble the entire thing.

That's reasonably priced. I might pick one up just to replace my scratched up fob.

What Mike said. My dealer doesn't believe in repeat customers though. I haven't bought a part from them since the key fob.
