Wasn't it very difficult to even find an SE after the very first LR3's with V6's?
I've personally never seen one on an LR4, where even the 3rd row is an option.
I wonder if it will be the same with the 5? Sucks that these things no longer come with the 2 speed transfer case as standard, but as we all know how many of these things (when bought by their first owner at least) actually ever need to be dropped into low...

The '14 and up LR4s did not come with a two-speed transfer case standard.

According to the brochure, LR will be using Aintree Green, which is on the current models.

Thanks! I had thought it was a new color green. Funny thing is, the green looks better on the graphic representation, to me, than it does in the two photos. Crap, I might be back to considering blue. And I also was thinking or ordering with black wheels as shown above... kind of wish they offered that in a matte finish.

The dark colors (blue and green) did look good with the gray roof option on the Discovery. But for some reason that locks you into a $1,700 upgrade. I don't like it that much.

@LR4USN , your LR3 purchase logic is sound. I do prefer the more utilitarian look. I like the capability and technology of Land Rovers, but I don't need the wood interior or high gloss finishes. A low mileage LR3, that's worth considering.

I really think people even slightly interested in D5 (and are enthusiasts on this forum) should wait and see what the next gen defender line ends up being. It would stink to get a D5 and then find out that the new defender is more functional and LR4 like.

That is where my head is at... but then again I am fairly confident I am keeping my V8 LR4 long term.

I feel the same way mbw. Currently loving our 2012 LR4 Lux and the functional performance that it provides us off-road, towing our relatively heavy ~6500lb camper, and daily space to handle moving kids and dogs anywhere we want to go...all in a nice driving package that is extremely solid but not too large. Capable, practical, and functional all come to mind, but also very luxurious.

I keep going back-and-forth on the D5 with things that I like and things I'm not completely crazy about, but I'm certainly not in any hurry to be a first adopter and I'm definitely interested in seeing what the new Defender lineup brings to the table given the rumors. Very happy to wait a bit with our current LR4.

The D5 off-road looks so out of place....for me personally it's just the overall look. Nothing physically says "rugged" to me at face value

A posh, luxurious boulevard cruiser on 20" low profile highway tires and loaded with 4/5 air conditioned passengers and cargo room to spare, nonchalantly clawing its way up and down some - by the looks of it - radically steep and rocky trails, virtually unstoppable. No wheel spin, no dust clouds, no drama. Say what you will about its jelly bean looks (beefier tires and rims, some additional ground clearance and body / underbody protection should help, just like they help a stock LR4), but traction control technology, ground clearance and wheel articulation all look pretty impressive from the cheap seats so far. Surely the original Range Rover Classic looked out of place off the beaten path as well, back in the 80s. I greatly enjoyed the videos, thanks for sharing them.

Thanks for posting that video. It gives the best real world look of the cars as it isn't a professional marketing piece showing only the angles they want.

Overall, I liked the look of the D5, maybe it's growing on me. I do still think it looks like an Explorer from the front/side, but there is something characteristically LR about the rear.

This shot of the sunroof was interesting, because, if this is open all the way it's really not that big. One of the sales pitches was how large the new sunroof is, but that's only a feature if it goes back all the way. Some cars do, and really open up the space nicely. You should be able to stand on the seat and stick your body out the top like a President waving at his constituents! :) Other cars just go halfwayish...which it kind of looks like here;

(that's not a clickable link, BTW. Just a screen capture)

Then, of course, there are the disgusting shots of everyone standing under their giant mini-van lift gates. :bawling: You can see a couple of the tiny benches sticking out, but not too many people sitting on them, like they would on real tailgates.

Did anyone notice the LED headlight borders flashing randomly? Is this some notification from the 4WD system or did they just have the lights on strobe mode? Seemed odd, unless there is a notification reason for it.

LED lights are not really dimable--they are either on all the way or off. To compensate, LED lights flicker so as to appear "dim" to the ***** eye. When you pair that with the frames per second of a video camera, it looks like they are blinking.

A similar effect can happen with spinning helicopter blades, which can often look like they are stationary on film.
