Speaking of the Disco 5, I was at the LR dealership today shooting the wind on my lunch break and they were showing me videos of their training session in AZ last week....that thing is crazy capable! They mentioned that there was talk of a SVX version coming out next year with more power, standard beefy tires and other LR bolt ons. Too bad I really dislike the look of the D5....I feel that since TATA took over, the look of all the new vehicles is becoming more universally friendly instead of boxy and rugged, and dare I say...iconic...they also mentioned that LR4 sales have been skyrocketing since they displayed the new body style last year, which is good for our resale value (as if anyone would actually want to sell theirs)

In regards to the Defender, I really hope they reconsidered the body style of the concept. The defender needs to take a page out of the Merc G-Wagon handbook and keep things classic and iconic...well, IMO.

The DC100 concept was scrapped almost immediately. The Defender will purportedly not look like it.

Some reports from people who have seen sketches say it looks very LR4-esque.

Probably in the $50's to $80's, depending on options.

The low point of the Defender lineup will presumably be priced around the high point of the Wrangler lineup, if I had to guess, at least based on what sort of sales Land Rover has been wishing for.

That's my assumption. I think they will want the basic, stock Defender to compete with and crush the Wrangler Rubicons.

I decided on my LR4 (with HD package of course) after going back and forth between a Raptor, Tacoma TRD pro and Wrangler Rubicon. Raptor is pretty dang impressive but was too big for my garage(and really just too big in general). Usable cargo space in the Tacoma and Rubicon weren't on par with the LR4 and the refinement doesn't come close. LR4 was just the perfect combination of luxurious, utilitarian refinement that was off-road worthy.

I guess I would never have bought a vehicle without a (what some might call absurd) amount of research. The HD package was number 1 on my list of requirements, followed by the black pack, then the LUX or Landmark trim, then interior trim/color, then exterior color. I got everything I wanted minus the exterior color. My first choice was Corris Gray. I don't think the LR4 gets any better looking than Corris Gray with the black pack. I like my Fuji White though. Storm Trooper look is still pretty acceptable for me.

It did take me a few months to find all that. Ended up buying one on a business trip and driving it back home 1500 miles. I guess most people buying a vehicle aren't quite as obsessive and willing to put forth that much effort. If I weren't single, I'm pretty sure an S.O. would have put a kibosh on all that...

Yea, Defender has always been far more utilitarian. Not all the crazy lux bells and whistles. There's no way they should expect to price it anywhere near the LR4. This SVO SVX whatever version of the LR4 will probably be nosebleedingly expensive. 80-90k at a guess.

I had a Wrangler Unlimited prior to my LR4. They are deceivingly cramped inside. The rear doesn't have much cargo space, especially if (like mine) it has the subwoofer.

That alone was a big reason why I wanted something different.

Still, it was a fun vehicle that I took all over Colorado trails.

That's what two of my good friends tried to convince me of. I had been trying to decide what to get for almost a year(and half waiting for the new raptor) and for a good month or so a Jeep was at the top of the list. Both of my trusted friends had owned jeeps and said there wasn't much out there that was as just plain fun as a jeep. Driving around with the top off was a pretty good selling feature.

In the end the LR4 just fit my personality better. The Tacoma and Jeep would have felt like too much of a downgrade, both in power and refinement, from my Infiniti. The LR4 at least numbers-wise is better on power if only just. The leather and overall build quality meets or exceeds that of the Infiniti. Liked that too much to get rid of it and will continue to enjoy that in the twisty bits.

That's what I had but the 2dr, a manual jk wrangler sport with a 3" lift, 35" tires and that bulky stock subwoofer....far, far more capable than the LR4 off the pavement.

...BUT....

only used the full limits of its capability a few times in my 7 years of owning it. I have a daily 80 mile round trip to work and back, and the ride....well, it SUCKED. It was very cramped, loud, the music quality was bad, the summers were brutal trying to cool the inside and getting my newborn son in and out of the back was a nightmare. The LR4 is a much better all around vehicle for me, gets me through all the off-roading I do on a weekly basis, rides like a dream, awesome sound system, wayyyyyyyyy more refined, and a beautifully iconic looking vehicle...which honestly, I believe is the last true SUV...EVERYTHING that they consider an "SUV" now looks like a larger compact SUV as far as styling. (Except a jeep, but I never considered those an suv, like the defender)

Oh, and around here, jeeps (and 4Runners/tacomas) are a dime a dozen, can't go a mile without seeing one. I'll be lucky to see one LR4 in a week, and I don't have to worry about another jeep person waving at me every 5 minutes, lol

@backcountryLR4 you made a solid decision!

Yea, friend had a Wrangler and always complained about it as a daily driver. It drove like a tank, he couldn't even fit his golf clubs in back without removing the seat (2dr), the audio sucked BAD, etc etc. I know it is significantly cheaper than an LR4, but the Jeep has far far too much plastic in the interior. It's worlds apart.
