I‘ve been looking all over the web for this problem. Usually I hang at disco3.co.uk but couldn’t find an answer since most members drive V6 Diesel there and I suspect it‘s petrol V8 related. I signed up here especially for this thread.

I have exactly this „Sudden Acceleration While Parking“ problem and I‘m glad to hear that others are having the same issue.
It doesn‘t happen every time, just from time to time (every 2-3 weeks) - more often in winter.
I cleaned throttle and MAF, flushed automatic transmission, new transfer case oil - no big difference.
This can be very dangerous. When the car accelerates by itself, I need to press the brakes really hard to stop it. Until now I was always able to prevent an accident but was thinking, if my reaction was slower next time ... or someone else is driving the car and is surprised by it ...

What‘s the latest solution to this? Can the Califonia Stop Software Update help fixing it?

What are the particulars of your vehicle and the operational conditions that lead to this?

I'm on record saying that all these claims are BS. People trolling after the situation with the Prius years ago.

I’m describing an issue that I‘m having and I‘m looking for a solution. What make you think it‘s BS?
I’ve never heard about the situation with the Prius here in Europe. If it‘s related I want to know - if not please leave it out.
I‘m happy to hear your opinion if it helps solving my problem.
I got a 2005 LR3 SE V8. Operational conditions are very simple: When I almost come to an halt, it happens from time to time that the car revs up hard by itself. I think this happens in 1st gear, but could be in second. I‘ll try to remember that next time. That‘s usually while parking. 99% it’s doing what it’s supposed to to. But the 1% has a high potential to do harm which scares me. I think it may be the transmission trying to find the right gear but get somehow confused. If there‘s a software fix that I should know I‘m glad to hear more.

Okay....so walk me through this like I'm a 4 year old.

You almost come to a halt....so are you braking? Are you idling? ....are you using Command Shift? What RPM does it rev up to? Does that cause it to lurch forward?

I may have a theory or two, but need details such as the answers to the questions above.

The 4.4 does not have the power to overcome the brakes. Therefore operator was not braking fully while vehicle was surging forwards. So unless the hand of god was pushing the vehicle along the operator simply was either pressing accelerator and/or brake at same time. Case closed.

I was trying to determine if only the RPMs surged (normal in downshifting) or if there was actual forward acceleration due to uncontrolled throttle. Either way, I'm fairly sure it's operator error or internet troll (LR3 in Europe???)....so I want more details.

I guess I'm bored....slow Tuesday.

I have hit the brake and accelerator at the same time (wearing large snow boots and was quickly moving a car while shoveling). It took a second or two to realize what was happening (car moving forward despite me pressing on "brake".) The urge is to press harder because the brain thinks it is pressing on the brake. In reality I was pressing on both. Once I realized that and I lifted all was normal. Operator error.

Any situation where the person claims they were hitting the brake but the vehicle was moving forward is lying or mistaken. A properly functioning brake system has more stopping force than the engine can overcome.

Agreed....I mostly wanted to see if maybe the OP confused a surge in RPMs for a surge in acceleration. They are different, as I'm sure you know.

I also think the OP might not be back.
