My 2011 LR4 is nearing 75k miles. Been changing the oil on my own every 7500 miles or so since it hit around 45k miles, and I take care of the pollen & engine air filters. Looking through the maintenance schedule, it looks like a few 'big' items would be coming due soon, including rear locking differential oil and transfer box oil. The lower control arms have already been replaced, so I don't have to worry about those.

Anyone have a sense of how much these service items should cost, and are these items I'm better off going to the dealer for to make sure they are done right? (I don't have a great LR indy shop, just local shops that do brakes and basic maintenance)

I'm on the same boat. Except I purchased mine used at 85k miles. Almost zero records for it other than lower control arms shown replaced at 72k miles, so I'm knocking off items one at a time. I do my own oil service. Still haven't purchased a mighty vac. I'm old school, taking the skid plate off like my old LR3. I figure if I can change the oil I can easily perform TC and diff fluid changes. I'll purchase a pump to refill. Anyone know how to tell the difference between electric differentials vs non-electric? About to purchase the kit from Atlantic British.

If you have a locking rear differential, there will be an electric actuator on the outside.

Last time I paid for an Indy shop to do a basic oil change I was charged nearly $270. They mark up filters, oil, etc 20% or so.

Atlantic British has a TC/Diff fluid package with new hardware for $175. I imagine a shop will charge $200-230 for this to make marginal profit. I'm a DIY kind of guy, but if you don't mind the markups you should expect $400-450 after labor, parts, fluid for changes.

There's a write up here on the diffs and TC, they are easy to do.. And, it's good to spend some time under the vehicle just to see how everything's doing. I did the diffs and TC in about 2.5 hours taking my time..

I agree, it didn't take long. You need the transaxle fluid from LR, since it is mixed with unicorn tears or something. The front and rear diff can use RedLine. The main thing, as I remember, is you need a good graduated cylinder to measure the oil going into the differentials, its an odd number. The front is 0.66 liters, the rear 1.1 liters or 1.61 liters for locking diff, so it is not like other 4WD where you fill it until it escapes from fill hole. Transfer box is 1.5 liters.

If you don't want to climb under there to see, you can look at the 4x4 menu on your radio at the illustration of your wheels - if it has a lock icon (like the one in the center) on the rear axle you have one. But since you list HD package in your sig, assuming you know that for a fact, you have one - on the 10-13 it was part of that package.
