sure looks like a really nice Ford Explorer ... forget long lumber on the roof or a root top tent opening over rear, or an awning at rear, or the awesome 270 degree awnings.

Are "WE" really that insignificant ? How about all the people who 'want' these things I mentioned even if they aren't 'enthusiasts'. Many people buy for function they honestly never fully utilize which is ok, but where will they now go for the functions they don't really 'need' ?

that poor guy leaning on the edge of the glass that wont go down all the way... maybe he can take a rest later under the massive trunk lid on the baby flap. *sigh*.

I am really happy they are good off road, and the look as very slightly grown on me, but I am still 85% MEH.

They do look impressive for an aerodynamic SUV. I'm curious what's the maximum tire size they would fit. The pic that mbw posted above makes it look like there isn't much spare room when the stock tire gets tucked, although that could just be the angle.

And it is nice to see Land Rover at least trying to maintain some off-road cred by taking them on these trails (anyone know what trail this is? I've got a lot more Colorado experience than I have Utah/Nevada/California experience).

And, since they are bringing the Defender back, Land Rover may just be thinking that the Defender is the one that people will want to buy to modify for off-road purposes, so they can keep the Discovery as vehicle that can perform well enough stock for the people who will buy it over the Defender.

But this means that LR better bring the thunder with the Defender.

Ha, that is so funny. I skimmed the videos and the one thing that stuck out was that guy trying to rest his arm on the window sill and he could not seem to find a comfortable position.

The stock tires should be 31", so by the looks of it I am thinking 31.5" would be the max you can stuff in there without modifications.

As LR has done with the Range Rover and Discovery, I have a suspicion that the new Defender will become a sub-brand with (eventually) multiple models… That would be pretty neat, and give us more to look forward to in the coming months/years.

LR's vision for their three model sub-brands: Range Rover (upscale off-roader), Discovery (family off-roader), Defender (utilitarian off-roader). Zero percent of me purchased the LR4 as a family vehicle (kind of a waste), so it looks like the Defender would be most suitable for me. I’m taking my eyes off of the Discovery models completely and will hope that LR's developments for the Defender will satisfy my desires. :)
