So, I ordered the one from Florida, and am taking the time to look and see if anything else pops up. Will have my mechanic inspect it when it gets here. It'll be a while, they have to print title and stuff first.

Upon watching the market, it is amazing how few LUX and HSE vehicles are out there. In my entire search I think I saw only 2 with the HD package (rear locker) and they were both base units. People are either holding on to their LR4s or scooping them up because it is the last model year. (note, my searches have been limited to 2012/2013 LR4s)

Over the last year or two 2013s have held remarkably firm in value. We looked before getting our 2015, but was hard to find the right package. Looking again recently and seems they are all still $40-45k depending on mileage.

Keep in mind that many indy dealers don't even know what an HD package is, let alone how to identify it. That's how I ended up with mine. I was just making calls to a few dealers for fun. Figuring it probably didn't have HD, I asked the salesman if it did and that it was an absolute must. Well he came back and said it did, so that's what i used to convince myself to get it.

Keeping in mind this was a Land Rover dealer that didn't bother to mention the HD in the classified ad, I'm sure that there's more out there than you know even if they are considerably rarer than non HD.

In my several month long search for a CPO 2015 with HD package (LUX and Black pack were next on the list), I did not run across many HD packages. (I have been looking again for kicks since buying my LR4 and they are still rare)

You are correct that many dealers don't always list it, but it is easy to tell by looking at the console buttons (or dial for pre-2014 MY).

I can't tell you how many pictures I looked at hoping for those extra buttons...

Pre-2014s with HD packs don't have any "extra" buttons or dials on the console (compared to a similarly equipped LR4 without HD.)

Isn't the extra "Rock Crawl" icon on the far right of the dial present for HD pack when not available for non HD? Maybe I misunderstood when I stopped looking for a pre-2014.

Rock Crawl mode is there on pre-2014s, with or without rear lockers / HD pack. It is missing from 2014s+ without HD because those models also lack the 2-speed transfer case, which would make rock crawling an iffy proposition at best. :)

Ahh. Gotcha. Learning more everyday.

Well, as much as everyone dotes on the 2013, I still love my 2015 with HD pack. :)

Agreed! I'm loving my 2016 with HD. Never drove a V8 version and don't want to...so I don't have any second thoughts!

And early reply about altitude, having driven many NA motors up to 7,000 feet, and feeling the definite loss of power, I can honestly say I didn't experience that at all when driving up to Big Bear a few weeks ago in my LR4. Very impressed with that. Not so much with watching the fuel gauge drop whilst heading up hill almost before my eyes. But you can't have everything right!?
