Hello everyone.

I just installed Johnson Rods on my 2016 LR4.

I installed the first Johnson Rod on the front, left wheel. After doing so, I hopped out, turned the car on, and put it in off road height. I wanted a bit more room to work for the next three Johnson Rods.

I installed the other three Johnson Rods in about 7 minutes...no problems with any of them.

I then started up the truck, and put it in normal mode, and drove around the block.

At first, I got an Amber "Suspension Fault" indicator. That went away after a little bit.

Then...I got a Red "Suspension Fault" indicator. The car went down to what I assume is Access Height...but it seems very low. It limits me to 30 miles an hour - not that I can go any more than 5 mph. The truck is VERY bouncy.

With the truck on, I press the ride height toggle..and I get no adjustment and I do not hear the compressor working. The car also beeps audibly when I press the toggle button.

My guess is that the compressor is overheated...or that it is blown. God, I hope not the latter.

Any comments, help, thoughts, would be very much appreciated. From the looks of it...people put these rods on constantly but I don't read much about like what I am experiencing.

Thanks!

Ok from experience, you need to raise your truck manually to get the sensors back in range of the ECU.

Same thing happened to me but on a trail. amber then red then truck went down to bump stop. With over sized tires, not a good thing. However, I too have the Gap Diagnostic IIDTool in bluetooth. With this tool I was able to manually activate the air compressor and raise the truck back to the normal sensor range. The truck was then able to reset by turning off then back on the ignition.

Thanks Will...I appreciate the quick response. I was able to drive it up on the driveway cutout, and get under there to put the stock sensor rods back on. Restarted the truck and it cleared all of the faults...so...that begs the question...

How do you run Johnson Rods on a '16 LR4 without getting these faults? I have the stock 20" rims...any chance that some how makes them incompatible?

Any input would be appreciated.

Try installing them again, but this time do not turn your engine back on until all 4 rods are hooked up. My guess is that you really confused the EAS module by replacing just one and then switching to off-road height with the other 3 standard length rods still in place, then replacing the rest and going back down to normal height.

Agree with the above. I cringed a little when I read that, the computer probably just totally wigged out. I'd put the old ones back on and see if it works. My guess is that it might not and that the front left will still be out of whack with the others. If it doesn't, maybe try a hard reset with the battery cables. If that fixes the faults just start over doing all 4 at the same time.

Thanks everyone. I will put all 4 back on this week (at the same time) and update the thread with results. Hopefully the moral of the story/conclusion, is just to make sure that all get installed at the same time, without turning the car on in between.

Thanks again.

Will do once I get them on...but probably won't look too great until I find some bigger tires for the 20" stock rims :-/

Moral of rod story is they are almost the dumbest thing you can do with an LR3/4 .... it amazes me people spend $$$$ on a vehicle they are too cheap or impatient to set up with parts commensurate with the vehicle cost. Electronic suspension adjustment, steel spring replacements or factory stock are the only good solutions. The rods represent lack of ethics taking advantage of ignorance. They aren't even required for 32" tires but the seller makes such dis-proven claims. LOL

There are a lot more 20" tire choices now compared to 10 yrs ago. I briefly had 285/50-20 on the wider 'Stormer' SC Range Rover Sport wheels. With the 9.5" rim width and higher offset they looked awesome ;) However, there are smarter sizes now and AT tires. Good luck
