Somebody will know whay removal will reveal or you can start poking around ;)
Thanks for the prod. I did find these two links with pictures. Seems like a PITA, but can be done. Wasn't sure if my model year (2013) when they were put on as "options" was much different than when they became "standard equipment". I think someone commented that they just beefed up the supporting metal a bit.

Not a bit... a lot! On a 2013 such as yours, it's just a matter of removing a half dozen relatively flimsy brackets bolted on with maybe a couple dozen nuts and bolts, and both running boards will come off quite easily and with minimal hassle. They will leave behind a rocker trim with small cutouts where the brackets used to be, barely visible to the ***** eye. If those cutouts really bother you, down the road you could just buy a new pair of trim pieces to restore the original look. On a 2015MY or later, removing the factory side steps / side impact protection devices would be more involving (and technically illegal.) The bracket is indeed much beefier and heavier, and there are crumple pieces under the chassis as well.

Pretty sure you can find Ikea-like fitting instructions for the accessory side steps on your LR4 in Topix, if you want to "reverse engineer" their installation to take them off... Easy peasy. Try: https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/content/document/view?id=114121&groupId=1660

Regarding the heated windshield missing on yours, bummer. On most recent models (including the new Disco, I am sure) Land Rover has made the non-heated screen a NCO on trims and packages where the heated windshield is included as standard equipment, or made it a self standing option altogether instead of a component of a pack. That's specifically to address complaints from owners who like other features of the cold weather pack (heated seats, mirrors, steering wheel, washer nozzles) but can't stand the sight of those filaments sandwiched in the windshield and/or happen to live in areas of the US where the heated windshield is kinda overkill anyway, such as Florida or here in So Cal... That was not yet the case on your LR4, though.

I'm just kidding of course. Your truck looks awesome even without them. Love those wheels.

So, hmmm... maybe I'll pull them off before the beach trip.

If I remove factory installed running boards, what's it going to look like underneath? Am I missing trim that is supposed to be there or will I have a dark black lower molding rail that had been shielded from the sun for years?

In any case, now that I got the wheels and vent painted, that silver rail on the running board has to go...

I love the way the oem wheels look painted like that. Remind me what you did to them? I have those same wheels for my winters and now I want them to look like that!

If you take off the lower trim parts (like I did) to put on sliders, it just looks like my last picture. You can see the white body paint under the black side trim a little bit.

I found a local wheel repair specialist that also paints rims and parts.

They took off the wheels, removed the tires, and powder coated everything and gave it a matte finish. There were lots of color options but I went with "Charcoal Bronze" which was a dark gray and possibly a tint of bronze that'll match my "Nara Bronze" paint. They also painted my side vents and front grill inset to match. Very happy with their work.

I considered plasti-dipping the wheels, but that seemed like it would require regular upkeep and some say it's hard to clean mud stains off. I also considered these remote shops that come out to your car and do mobile service. However, most of them do it on the car, their products are limited, and the quality isn't as good. It seemed like the best way was to leave it with a quality paint shop for a couple days and let them do all the stages in controlled environments.

Thanks for the feedback. I do like it much better than the factory tone on these particular wheels. I thought the factory finish looked kind of plastic-like on the stock LUX wheelset.

My Voyager sliders are still for sale since Todd went with new Voyagers.

PM me if interested. I started on fixing the edge that has a little rust today, but overall I think they will hold up for many more years. Minor rust after more than 2 years is ok by me.
Hello, you still selling your Voyager sliders?

I believe he sold them. If so, Voyager should now have another set available since I canceled my order, unless someone already snatched them up.

So has anyone installed the newer, steel Terrafirma sliders? Do they require as much modification as their aluminum ones did?

I just installed a set this weekend with no modifications on a 2012 LR4. However, they do make minor contact with some hose clamps on the passenger side and an A/C hose connector on the driver side. It wasn't enough contact to prevent them from raising into place so I didn't modify anything.

I'll probably pull them off in the future to check everything out and clean. All of the mounting holes lined up.
