Can anyone recommend a good medic kit to add to an overland setup? My fire extinguisher just came in. Going to install some QuickFist Clamps on the C Pillar soon. I've found this one, but for $600 I think it's a bit overkill. Not trying to perform surgery on the trail. Just something practical. Thanks in advance.

I like most of the AMK / Adventure Medical Kits, they are high quality, well thought out and organized, and reasonably priced for what you get. They include an excellent field first aid guide. They are nothing like the one you linked above, but then again I am no surgeon, either. Don't think I could ever use 5 or 6 different sizes of scissors. I carry the Mountain Weekender in my LR4 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G7YIL4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8), unless you overland for weeks or with very large groups it has enough of just about everything you need to treat 99% of injuries you or your buddies could incur on a trail. Plus, there is enough stretch in the bag to supplement some additional goodies (I added a whistle, some extra pain relievers, bandages, sunscreen tube, a lighter, pocket knife, better quality tweezers, and a couple other small accessories). The bag fits comfortably inside the covered cubby on the LH side of the cargo area of the LR4.

Just remember that you will have to replenish some of the medications / pain relievers in the kit every year or so, as they expire and the heat of the car doesn't do them any favors. I usually just buy a new kit every couple of years to be safe. Other than the occasional Band-Aid and Aspirin, I have only had to use it once for a minor, self inflicted injury (cut my hand and fingers pretty bad a couple of years ago trying to hand catch my drone attempting to defect back to China, what a ******* move that was), knock on wood...

I have the "Adventure Medical Kits Mountain Series Easy Care Comprehensive" version, which is a little larger. I added a few little things to it and I think its enough for a decent extended trip.

I second what the other guys say. I have a similar set up but have added several other items. I think it boils down to what you are comfortable treating and what are the likely medical issues you might run into.
I carry a little extra, I would suggest adding chewable aspirin, nitroglycerin, maybe hydrocortisone cream, bottle of chlorhexadine or spray saline ( great for scrapes). depending on your budget and people your with- consider an AED and epiPen

Hopefully if people are deathly allergic they will have their own epinephrine, and if they have heart issues hopefully they will have their own meds for that.

Mine is probably overboard but we do a lot of dry camping associated with dirt bikes so injuries are abundant.

Some of the trails and trips I plan on hitting this summer require a medical kit and fire extinguisher. Picked up a 5ib class ABC extinguisher and made a bracket. Fits nicely behind back seat.

1) How many people have used a medical kit in there life that were not in a war zone? 2) What was the primary purpose that you had to use the bag? Personally I walked from ME to GA on the AT and a bandaid was the only thing I brought and never had a need for any thing else. I did cut my self on the trail with a shop knife while eating an apple. Held it tell I got home with TP and used Super Glue to fix it up. Now Super Glue goes with me on my trips.
