Hit 80 degrees yesterday for the first time of 2017 and went hunting for snow up in the mountains.
Ended up coming across a broken down F-150 up near the top of the trail and did some of my first towing/recovery with the landy. Hooked up the Ford and towed him up to an open spot(which happened to be a natural gravel pit) to where I could turn him around and get him pointing down hill. I expected to notice that I was pulling a 5,000 lb truck at 7000 ft elevation up a trail and through a deep gravel pit. I couldn't even tell he was there...

This was all after a Jeep over-heated trying to pull him. On-lookers even commented how effortless it was.

Haven't even had my LR4 for 6 months, but I like it more and more as time goes on.

Shot from last night prior to helping out the Ford:

Thanks XL,

Well I would love to mod it. I should have taken a look at this forum before I decided that. The first thing is I need new tires (after less than 20K miles)!!!. I wanted to put on some beefier tires like Nitto Terra Grapplers, however I have 20inch rims and that doesn't leave much room unless I get a lift kit. I'm looking for the most width I can get with a cool look. Tire rack guy said 265's (265/50/20). Currently I have 255. You have any insight there?

A. There is no such thing as a "lift kit" and the so called 'rods' are simply cheating while providing nothing truly changing the available height already designed into the system.

B. I had wider wheels than the lr4 stock 20". They were RRS SC 'Stormer' wheels with 285/50-20 and they barely fit. You can hammer/bend back the outer lip of the UCA if it does contact the tire. Nextcsize fit sure would be 275/50 and of course 275/45 but these are all geared toward the wider wheel.

C. If you want to stick with a tire that actually fits your wheel in an ideal proportion, probably that 265/50 or 275/50, you could get it flush with the fender by adding a 25mm spacer from H&R. I wouldn't recommend their 30mm as it could start to push the tire into the tight clearance spots while turning, which even the waste of money 'rod mod' doesn't really remedy. The H&R spacers are very well made. I have both sets.

Verify your wheel width and offset first. Also, do you have a full size matching spare ? If not, you can't use the temp spare if you've changed the diameter of the running tires. You should be getting a 5th wheel and matching tire for the spare.

You use low gear to tow?

Uhhh... nope.
Should I have?

I'll be honest, the LR4 is my first truck and don't have a ton of experience towing. Watched bunches of recovery videos so I can at least be safe and responsible. This incident wasn't really a recovery, we wasn't stuck. Just couldn't move under his own power. He simply needed to be pointing downhill so he could roll out of there.
