This must be one of the few upsides of living on the Kansas/Missouri border. I crawled under my 2012 a few weeks ago when putting on some skid plates and I still don't see much rust anywhere.

So, did you like the V6 better than the diesel????

Yes, much better than the sluggish diesel demo I drove. Third test drive may have been a charm since I was no longer fixated on how it was so different from my LR4, no longer an SUV, windows were shorter, roofline lower, I'm sitting lower, etc. I went in thinking it was like my old Audi allroad, more of a capable wagon. I may like it enough now to get one. But we're still keeping my wife's LR4 forever, even if I have to replace the frame someday.

I stopped by Land Rover Cape Cod to test drive a SCV6 Discovery since I was not impressed by the TD6 demo I drove at another dealer. The salesperson asked if I frequently drove on the beach, which we do. Twice he mentioned how great it was that the Discovery was now an aluminum unibody with no steel frame. Then he showed me a LR3 in the shop with the body lifted off the frame with a badly rusted frame and an entire new frame sitting next to it. The LR3 owner lives on Nantucket, so the vehicle only had 20,000 miles on it. (Nantucket is 14 miles long x 4 miles wide) However, the original frame had rusted out from the constant salt air, so they were replacing it. I guess we will have to keep checking our frames to combat the rust if possible.

If I had to be going through a frame replacement, I'd be dang sure it gets galvanized and wax dipped like the Mercedes G wagons first. Then also while it's off I'd do a comprehensive body shell underside treatment with Beoshield or waxoil.

Also it sure seems like the right time for a 2-4" body lift ;) Some people have now done the bigger ones and they did it "the right way" but it was pretty extensive changing linkages. I'd be happy with just enough but not so invasive.
