...I do not listen to the radio and I can download anything in the android system. So I keep the audio source on BT all the time.
I do as well... and the BT auto play on connect feature drives me f-n nuts!

Nothing will be lost from the factory stuff. Backup camera & phone calls behavior will remain as it is even if the screen is switched to the android system.
So if you are on the android screen and you receive a call the system will switch to the phone screen immediately. Same case if you shift to reverse the camera will turn on.

The two systems are really integrated and not isolated as you think.
For example, if you are on the android system and you change the volume, the volume gage popup will come over the android system without switching back to the factory screen.

The only thing that is not integrated is the audio from the android unit where you need to connect it through aux input or stream it using Bluetooth. The issue here is u need to toggle between the audio source if you want to listen to the radio or audio from the CD player. Who cares? I do not listen to the radio and I can download anything in the android system. So I keep the audio source on BT all the time.

I gotcha - perfect answer, thanks for taking the time. The fact that you connect the audio from the android system via bt actually answers my main curiosity from a technical standpoint. Thanks again.

It is a plug and play. The installation was easy (DIY) except for the gps antenna that had to be passed through the firewall to the engine bay. No need to cut anything so you can return back to the original setup without any damage.

OK, my dashboard is stripped out, but I can't find a usable pathway to route the GPS antenna cable through the firewall. There is a rubber **** in the top middle, but that opens out to the back of the HVAC box and I cant access it from inside the dash.
There is another rubber **** with wires beneath the brake booster, but when I poke a wire coat hanger through it, it doesn't go through into the cabin, seems there is a L shaped turn with another **** on the inside that I can't route through. How did you do it?

My unit also appears to have a different OS that does not run Android apps. It seems to be a Windows CE unit? I bought it from the link you provided to Naviplus.

There is a rubber grommet high up in the firewall just to the right of the master cylinder.

There is some insulating padding on the other side of the hole.

You will need to pock a hole through this padding to get the cable into the cab. I used a screwdriver to do it.

I just attempted this. There is no way I can get anywhere near that grommet. There is a huge wiring harness and brake lines running right in front of it and I can't even touch the grommet with a long screwdriver, let alone get a hand to it. I installed my GPS antenna to the top of the windshield next to the mirror. My unit had a few issues on arrival. The power cable had a crossed pair of wires that I needed to switch around in the connector block and the Android box was set to boot in Russian, so I had to google how to change that. The vendors in Australia were pretty helpful and quick to respond though. My unit is up and running with Waze, Google Maps and Navmii so far. Also loaded my skiing apps and a couple of others. Next job is to work out how to interface the AUX output from the Android box to the AUX input of my head unit. I couldn't find anywhere to plug them in.

From my conversation with Naviplus (very good communication BTW), you have to use your factory AUX jack on the back of the center console.
This was a deal breaker for me.
$600+ and still have to use the factory AUX jack, just looks wrong.
I'm sure I could have soldered in something to look better, but for that kind of money just seems short sighted.
I'll wait till something else comes along.

I have to pull out my center console again to install a factory cooler box, so I will probably solder my unit to there then. Not as elegant as I'd like, but not too tough.

I agree an easy fix, but not sure it can integrate with the factory unit. Considering everything else is plug and play (for the most part).

I was so happy until I realized it can't be used on mine. I've got a 2011 LR4 with the terribly archaic Nav screen. I love the car... just despise the screen.
