I too have the Terra Grappler G2s, 265/50/20. They look and work great.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a couple of questions:

1. The original Terra Grapplers have been discontinued, replaced by the G2s with same specs and tread design. I had to replace all 4 tires (first edition Grapplers G1, now not available anywhere) recently and went with the G2s. I still have have a spare unused original Grappler in the garage. Would there be issues if I decide to install G1 as a replacement for one of my tires?

2. I have 20" OEM 5-spoke diamond-turned alloys installed, one of which was curbed recently, but still usable. Would there be short-term and long-term problems with installing a replica wheel?

NICE! Is that stock height or with Rod lift? I am currently stock with no rod lift and debating on 265 or 285. If its only minor rubbing when its new, I want to step it up and get 285s. Will 285/50/20 work with stock? Thanks

@ProTonez The rubbing only occurs when the wheels are turned just before and at full-lock. I wouldn't say it's loud, but you can hear it. For instance, you wouldn't be able to hear it with the radio or A/C on at certain levels.

I haven't seen the 265s in the flesh so I can't really comment on them, but the 285s are indeed a very noticeable change and look great. I personally like more sidewall as opposed to a wider track, so I would've opted for the 275/55s had they not caused more serious rubbing issues, but I am very happy with the 285s.

Notice the difference between the 285 front and 255 rear:

Are you running rod lift? I was wondering if you can run 285/50/20 with stock height with no lift. Thanks

In the 20 inch wheel size, there are fewer options but some good options if you want to balance on and off road performance.

I went with the 285/50/20 Nitto Terra Grappler G2 and have been very happy with the performance on and offroad (and the meatier stance which is perfect on the LR4 IMO). As you already noted, they are also available in the 265/50/20 which will be closer to stock dimensions. The Cooper Zeons seem like another good option.

Using shortened sensor rods is not a "lift" nor do they magically alleviate the issues caused by larger tires.

285/50 may rub or be very close to the upper control arm depending on the wheel offset and width. 285/50 is really not an ideal width for wheels narrower than 9-9.5". It would be a very poor choice on 8-8.5" wide wheels.

FYI: Not all factory 20" are the same width. Mine were 9.5 and barely enough offset to not slice the inside edge of tire against UCA.

*Guess what else, the "rod mod" actually makes this issue worse, not better, because as the vehicle sits higher, the gap between tire and UCA closes....rods are pretty much problem creators, not solvers.

don't do the stupid rods . just give your $ to a homeless person . they change the handling to worse and less safe but also solve none of the tire size issues

I think I have asked you your thoughts in another post, JWest. I use the term vernacularly, as I am not a fan of rods either (in other words, I liked the stance of the vehicle, so I was trying to determine the magnitude of lift in the photo. I intend a slight e-lift to help with the fitting of the tyres in the wheel arch.

You dont need to pay 350 per tire. You can buy take off wheels/tires from new RR's for under $1K. Definitely worth it.

Hey all,
I plan on making an upgrade soon to 285/50/20. Wondering what those who have this setup are sizing up their 19" spares to as a back up in case of a flat?

Obviously, a full-size spare of the same size would be best, but does a 285/50/20 even fit in the spare wheel area?
