Without going into all the details at this time, I'm wondering if the CJB behind the glove box can be replaced with a same year used one. Just looking for a way to avoid an $800 part and the associated programming. Thank you

I don't see why not. The fuse boxes behind the lower glove box have basically remained the same for every model year LR4 (and Sport), and I don't believe programming is necessary for a box that only houses a bunch of fuses and relays.

The CJB holds the Master of the Car Configuration, dont expect the car to work with another CJB, the VIN cant be changed which stops the use of old CJB's unless you have cracked the encryption like these guys https://www.turnerdiagnostics.com/l...-cjb-bcu-and-key-programming-discovery-3.html

I'll go into a bit more detail hoping another LR4 owner had a similar issue.
Vehicle background: 2010 with 78k miles. Impeccable condition. Traded by medical doctor.
Clean Carfax with much dealer service. Sold as is. bought it during daytime.
Later I discovered some of the backlighting did not function. Examples: analog clock, light switch, shifter are, sunroof controls, etc.
I work at a decent size independent repair shop. But we just don't see many with the exception of some passing through our collision shop and of course mine. Our service department has lots of diagnostic equipment and subscribe to information providers. We are all ASE certified and do a lot of off site training. But this is Land Rover!!!
We are at this point: Checked all major circuits for a short to ground. None found. Inspected the CJB and connectors there for any corrosion. None. No water or dampness anywhere.
Our lead tech is leaning toward the CJB as the culprit. But I'm having a hard time springing for this expensive part. If any forum member has had a similar issue and solution, I would appreciate it. If not, we'll continue investigating. I will then post any solution if one is found by us. Or I may decide to live with it, but I'd rather not. Thank you.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention why we suspect the CJB: It's our understanding, among other things, the CJB acts as a circuit breaker in that if heat (too much current flowing) in a particular circuit it will shut off the power to it and eventually reset when cooled down.
At times the various back lights will work for various periods of time. Usually for a few moments. Last night the stayed on for half an hour. And they worked when I restarted moments later. This morning no lights! Still suspect the CJB as we isolated all the circuits one at a time with no problems found with respect a short to ground.
Thanks
