Glad to find this LR4 forum where people are actually working on and finding solutions to issues and concerns. I'm in Southern California with a 2011 HSE LUX in stornaway grey, I have 170K miles on her already and it's been a wonderful vehicle so far I hope to keep her running a while longer with the collective help on the forum. For what it's worth I've already changed rotors and pads and a few oil changes, with my Pella pump it is the easiest vehicle oil change I've ever done.

I scanned a few pages of threads so forgive me if I'm repeating these questions but I have two specific questions on the radio unit. My wife was bugging me about getting sirius/XM radio and although that website says the 2011 LR4 should have it integrated I do not. While using the vehicle manual it says the radio soft button should say 'radio/sat' but mine does not, only says radio so I will assume the unit does not have it loaded. I did register on the tropix site and downloaded the options and did not see mention of sirius/xm so that is that. My question is do you think it's possible to go to the dealer and have them 'program' or 'upload' that sat radio option onto my unit? Or do we just have what it came with from the factory?

My 2nd question is I see from the 3.5mm audio jack that I need a special iPhone to LR 3.5 cable to be able to play pandora from my phone through the radio unit - is this correct? Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated -

New Guy,

Welcome. I think you should contact the dealer to see if they can load the Sirius XM option, I have it on mine and cannot see how it can be removed or added..

I'm not sure about question 2.. Someone should chime in..

Mike

P.S. 170k miles?! That's fantastic, any major repairs or issues?

Thanks Pfunk, no major repairs. I can honestly say after having two Disco's I'm very pleased with what LR has done with their vehicles. This has been one of the most impressive vehicles I've ever owned. I've replaced the lower control arms and O2 sensors, that's it. I do hear the 'clacking' noise at the front of the motor in the winter on cold start ups, believe it has something to do with the chain tensioners and I think I saw a service bulletin on it but I'm a bit foggy at the moment. Just finished front rotors and EBC green stuff pads last weekend, hope to do more and help others if I can.

New Guy,

This is from a previous thread I dug up:

"This TSB was issued a few years back for MY2010-11s affected by the SiriusXM lineup change that happened in mid-2011 and screwed up a few of the older tuners in the process. Don't know if this applies to you, but here is the bulletin (sat radio module reflash required):"

It appears to talk about a module reflash that applies to your MY2011..

Umberto- I can't get this link you work, can you resend it?

But I don't believe SDARS was always integrated on the 2011 LR4, even in LUX trim. I know that the satellite and HD radio receiver was a standalone option on my 2013 LUX. If it doesn't show as a line item in your VIN's specific build sheet in Topix, my guess is that you just don't have the receiver for it. Since sat radio was a factory option, rather than a dealer installed one, adding the necessary receiver and reconfiguring the infotainment software to recognize it would likely be extremely expensive and probably not something an authorized dealer would do.

Regarding your second question, if all you want is to play Pandora from an iPhone (or any phone with a 3.5 mm headphone jack), you don't really need any proprietary cables from Land Rover. A regular, male to male 3.5 mm stereo cable will work between your phone's headphones out and the LR4's aux input. If you want to control your iPod or iPhone with the touchscreen interface however, a proprietary cable was indeed required for MY2010-11 LR4s. I have seen inexpensive aftermarket versions of that cable sold on eBay recently, not sure how well they work. The genuine article from Land Rover used to be ridiculously expensive, and a Bluetooth adapter - plenty of recent threads about them on this forum - may be a more practical choice if you are not super picky about sound quality.

170k Miles?! That’s awesome! I’m just at 106k. I’ve only replaced a map sensor thus far. These 4’s really are a step up from the 3’s.
