I just bought this car sight unseen from a dealer about 3 and half hours from me. It ran fine for a day or so and then when the car was started after sitting for awhile it would misfire. I called the dealer and he said it was a fault with a fuel pressure sensor and he is sending me one, but I don't have it yet. This dealer specializes in LR and says he has the factory diagnostic software, so I think he might have bought this thing with a problem and then thought he had it fixed when he sold it to me. I bought an LRII code reader off of Amazon to see if there were any codes I wasn't seeing with my generic obd2 reader, but there weren't. Misfires on 2, 4, 6, 8, random multiple misfires, misfires in the 1st 1000 revolutions. I tried to look at the readings from the fuel pressure sensors on the diagnostic tool but it is not the easiest platform to use. After sitting overnight if I try to start the car it usually won't start and smells like unburned gas, however if I hold the throttle down to put it in clear flood mode and let it turn over for a while before trying to start it it will usually then start. My question is has anyone experienced anything like this? I originally thought it might be an injector hanging open, but it runs fine after starting. We drove it 8.5 hours to OK last weekend and it did great and got 18 mpg by hand calculation (21 by the computer), so whatever it is it only happens when sitting.

My bet is leaking injectors on one bank. Fuel is leaking past the seals when sitting putting a lot of unburnt fuel into the cylinder. Injectors are not cheap (about $300-400 each). What a shop needs to do is let the vehicle sit. Pressure system up (not running) and then pull plugs to see with cylinders are wet with fuel.

Thanks. I just got the sensor from the guy I bought the thing from. I am going to buy an hour of info from Topix and put this thing on. I will update when I see if it made any difference. If it doesn't I'll let it sit overnight and pull the plugs to see what can be seen. I guess if one injector was leaking off it could cause the rest to miss because there fuel rail would need to fill back up?

Well I put the sensor on there and it seems to have solved part of my issue. Before the car wouldn't start unless put through clear flood mode. Now it fired right up every time but I am still getting DTC's for 2,4,6,8 misfire in the first 1000 revolutions. I am thinking VVT issue of some kind, but I'm not sure how to tell.

I pulled plugs 2 and 4 yesterday and found that they were coated in grime and wet. I pulled 5 for comparison and it was clean. I cleaned up 2 and 4 and put them back in. I started it this morning and it only missed on 4 and 8, which I didn't clean. I am going to do all 8 plugs because it is getting close to 100,000 miles and see if they foul out again. Hopefully the sensor that the dealer had me change was the culprit and not 4 leaky injectors or bum... bum... bum... a head gasket.

It was hard to tell. It wasn't oil. I was hoping it was fuel from leaking injectors but it didn't burn when I held a lighter up to the plug. I know I sound crazy here but when I licked (yeah I know) the plug it tasted sweet. I was trying to mentally force it to not be heads gaskets but I think I failed. What causes head gasket issues on these motors?
