Trying to get an answer about the trailer stability assist on the LR4. Is this an option of do all Lr4's have this? The dealers don't seem to know anything about these trucks super frustrating. I took mine in to get the trailer wiring installed thinking they would need to update the software or something .They seemed to have no idea what I was talking about when I asked about the stability assist. I have a 16ft airstream sport . I have taken it out 3 times and everything seems ok so far. But the idea of sway a little scary. Trying to figure out if I should put an anti sway control onto the hitch ? Or will that interfere with the stability assist? I have a 2012 LR4 HSE.

Do not use a load distribution hitch (is this what you are referring too?) it will **** the compressor. I believe all LR4s have the sway control built into them. Check youtube and search LR4/Discovery 4 sway control.

yeah not load distribution. just talking about the trailer stability assist (tsa). I do find reference to it online but I am not sure if its an optional thing or standard . and no one at the dealership seems to know anything about it.

this is what I'm referring too

It is built in to your stability control. Nothing to update or install, we all have it. This was finally confirmed to me by a tech representative from Land Rover NA after me having to be a real pesky asshole to my dealer for an extended period of time. You're right, it's shocking how little a lot of dealership employees know about these vehicles. The people at the domestic dealers seem to know a fair amount about the dozen or so models their brand produces, but LR employees can't seem to learn much about five models (in 2012, that is - two of which were really the same vehicle so really only four.) Kind of pitiful.

oh awesome . Yes very frustrating. One dealership told me it was not a feature available for my vehicle. I had to show them the youtube video for the service manager to tell me . "Oh let me look into this more". So lame.

The vehicle seems to know about trailers (at least load leveling) even if it can't detect the trailer through the wire loom. If you have enough current draw on the trailer wiring, an icon will show up on the dash and blink with the turn signals and such. I think the trailer stability assist works when the trailer light is on. I can't say for sure if it works without the trailer light on.

My trailer is LED and doesn't draw enough amps to trip the trailer light on the dash. So I just tow without it. Never had an issue.

They do need to change a flag in the CCF that says the trailer wiring is installed, but I don't think that does a lot. Every LR4 has trailer stability assist as standard.

I tow a 6500+ lb boat, 28' trailer with a SeaRay boat. I have never had sway issues. It is a dual axle trailer. The 60 gallon tank is probably just at or behind the rear axle. I have not noticed any traction control intervention or even had the slightest amount of sway or instability. It honestly feels really rock solid and I forget the damn thing is back there until I either look in the rear view mirror and HOLY @#$! the bow is up my ass.... or when I brake and then you feel it. (it just has the hydraulic surge brakes which are great, no brake controller)

You have some choice on your travel trailer for weight distribution, so just choose wisely, but I really doubt you will have any issues.

Nice setup ! Glad to know I'm not the only person with a LR4 as a tow vehicle.

Adding to the conversation, Atlantic British has a trailer brake controller you can buy to. It just basically plugs in and you’re all set.

Any brake controller works, you just need the correct harness to make it plug in easily. Ours (mine and the original poster - 2012 LR4 - not sure about every other year) is simply the "Ford" plug. For an easy reference you can look up a 2005 F150 and it's the same harness. I use an older Tekonsha Voyager with the 3035-P adapter harness. The plug is hard to find the first time, but it's up there. There's also a fantastic little tab on the plastic lower trim piece (above your shins when driving) that is seemingly designed for the bracket of a brake controller to hook over so you don't have to mount it permanently.
