..

I think the other, even more common, issue is the water pump impeller and crossover tube. I still worry about mine, which hasn't been changed, but so far its been ok. Only once did my coolant seem to drop a bit, but that could be a sign.

My water pump (seal) went this year. Fixed under warranty, and as you said it is a common issue.

Only reason I noticed was an unexplained low coolant level. Keep an eye on yours.

There is the problem. Dealer. A good independent would be a fraction of that.

Right, The independent estimated $3500 for the LR3 as I said. Why, how much was it when you had it done?

2013 was the last year of the 5.0L V8, 6-speed and dual speed transfer case. Buyer beware after 2013. Some would say 2013 was the best year for the LR4 if HD is fitted.

The tensioner problem was fixed on the 2013 5 liter. Was not a problem on either the few 4.2s from 05 or later 4.4s in the LR3s.

The 4.0 Jag V8, prior to US MY 2003, had plastic secondary tensioners that often split. About $3000 to fix unless you were real handy, then only $120 for new metal tensioners. Took me a couple of hours to replace my secondaries on my last X308 Jag. The 5.0 liter replacement is far more complicated: lots of threads on this, Jag, and Range Rover forums.

But if I were to guess, the price differential is due to last V8 as standard. . . and a year newer. My practical experience with Jags and LRs has been that the last year of any model run has a distinct advantage of having most of the "issues" resolved.

In addition to '13 being the last year of the V8, the other thing that may account for some of this is warranty. All 2012's should be out of warranty window now. (4 yr / 50K). You may find some late 2013's still in warranty window?? just a thought.

I didn't as my V8 at 100k miles is silent. I was curious about the cost if it ever did become an issue and was quoted $3200 Canadian which at current exchange rates puts it at $2500 US.

I am confused because your first post said it was a $6000-$8000 problem (I assume you are talking LR4?).
