I have an LR4 Landmark and it is equipped with what LR feels is high quality audio system however it is lacking in many ways and nothing close to what I have in other vehicles.

I would like to upgrade to something with far more clarity and a little more bass without losing the mids. Does anyone on here know if there is a plug and play option? One which improves the factory set up without changing the looks and has factory integration. I do not want bass boxes or crossovers and big bulky amps.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you.

mObridge offers a unit that plugs into the factory optical cable, and then integrates with your factory audio controls. It essentially replaces the factory Amp, and then gives you up to 8 full range channels so you can connect to aftermarket amps.

I plan on eventually using their DA3 to connect to a 5 channel JL Audio HD900 amp, front and rear JL Audio C5 component speakers, and a JL Audio 10” stealth box designed for the LR4 (if I can find one since they appear to have been discontinued). I’m a JL Audio fan...

I think there are other options, but none that I know of that connect to the factory optical cable and integrate into the factory audio controls. It also has firmware spacifcly designed for the LR4, and completely adjustable/tunable through a laptop or tablet.

It’s not cheap ($750 for the DA3 I think), but we drive Landrovers, not Hondas, so it’s expected.

I sold off a bunch of high-end home audio equipment and set out to make the audio in my LR4 really good. What I found, however, is that it was probably more trouble than it was worth, so I scrapped the idea.

I have a 2011 HSE LUX and have found the sound system to be on par or better than most vehicles I've driven. A quick google search shows they changed from the Logic7 I have to the Meridian system in the Landmark. I don't know what year they made the change to Meridian in the LR4's, but would it be possible to swap out the speakers? Logic7 was a 17 speaker system vs. the 11 that Meridian uses, maybe it would give it a fuller sound? You could always check Crutchfield for speaker recommendations and to see what would fit, wiring, etc. And to see if there is a difference between the earlier and later models on the speaker side. Or open up a speaker cover and see what you have for wiring.

I am not looking to nickle and dime the project since the other audio packages in my vehicles were $5-7k. I am expecting it to cost a bit to get done properly but the objective is that I want it to look like I did not spend a dime. I prefer to keep the OEM look and functionality.

Unfortunately not so in my case. When listening at higher volume there is very little clarity and the sound becomes muddled. If you try to tune the bass you get distortion without any real thump but you then get panel rattles. Dynamat and acoustic foam with felt tape would resolve the panel issues which isnt a concern since it is an easy fix but I have very little information on speaker options that work with the OEM system (at least that is what I have been told) and that is why I turned to the Enthusiasts here who may have additional or better information from experience.

I read older posts on here where people installed Focals and stated it sounded better, but without ensuring the impedance, sensitivity, crossover network, etc. is proper, it's a crapshoot unless, as saltyfly posted, you start closest to the head unit and rebuild from there.

I will search through the archives for the details on the Focal speakers. I was thinking go one step down on the subs in terms of ohms and just go for better speakers in the panels and rear pillars. Would this be a realistic approach?

I can vouch for Focal's quality, installed them in a Porsche years back with McIntosh amps, and now run some in my flagship home stereo setup.. I am an audio snob, and it sucks to hear the Landmarks have the Meridian- the D5 has it also and it leaves a lot to be desired. I'd keep investigating if you could roll back your system to a Logic7- I would rate the system in my 2012 LR4 right under the Mark Levinson systems Lexus runs.. Excellent detail and imaging, and someone here has a sub mod writeup (amp and woofer in the stock enclosure) that takes out the only soft spot in the system..

Good Luck,

Mike
