I agree. I had the Merdian 1900w 3D system in one of our RRSC and had the older H/K L7 in the L322 RRSC.
When you get into the LR4 LM and anticipate similar quality audio and do not receive it then there is a bit of a let down especially since this is optioned with the "premium audio package" which should just be renamed "audio package". Either way it is one of my few complaints with the vehicle overall it is a tremendous SUV with extraordinary capability and capacity so this minor issue is easily overlooked and or resolved.

Agreed, but to your point: An excellent vehicle needs a great system- overlooking it subtracts from the experiences you will have in this truck. In my opinion, music is a solid backdrop for adventure.

When it's 6:30am, and I have a roof full of duffle bags, truck full of Boy Scouts, and the highlights of the Rocky Mountains are slowly rising up out of the orange horizon, Radar Love by Golden Earring had better be ON POINT.

Otherwise, the speeding ticket isn't worth it.

Good man for introducing your crew of Scouts to some proper road music. :thrasher::rock:

I replaced the factory system with a Pioneer Double DIN and amp using a faceplate adaptor for a Freelander. I have sat, nav, and usb. I bypassed the optical cable, and have full functionality of all systems. I did use the factory wiring and really need to go back in and rewire and do aftermarket speakers, I was just trying to see if I could get it to work. Again that's on an LR3, I'm not sure if the systems are the same on a LR4.

From what I was told the system is different from LR3.
LR3 was more of the traditional audio set up with headunit and basic wiring. Whether or not that is true I do not know since I did not alter the LR3 I had in the past.

If you have the money for a $5,000 system, perhaps decide on the speakers you would use in that system and replace a pair (4,6, etc.) of the stock speakers. You may be surprised at how much better it sounds with that simple upgrade. This isn't the place to get into the nitty of hi-fi audio and all of the snake oil but spending $500 that you would spend anyway is a good place to start-- and good research for the rest of us. :)

And I know you won't ever get the deep bass without a proper subwoofer, but for passive listening it may be fine.

Separately- have you seen the cutting edge stuff they are researching now, using the various panels as transducers rather than traditional speakers? Interesting concept.
