Our single story home is the closest residential property to the Barker dam in Houston. The dam was close to failing after the hurricane so the USACE opened the gates to release 13,000 gallons per second into the already flooded bayou by our home. The water rose quickly and started flowing through our property. We received no warning. We had 4 adults, 5 large dogs and 1 grandchild and no-place to go (single story property). Fortunately I had a Discovery II and an LR3. We loaded them quickly and drove out. The video is from the D2's dashcam. Both cars made the journey and still run today. All the other vehicles in our subdivision were destroyed. The other residents were rescued by boat by the coastguard later that morning. I regret the circumstances but those amazing vehicles saved our bacon that night. Our home won't be finished until May/June, nearly a year later.

What a tragedy. Thanks for sharing the footage. I hope the new home is ready soon!

Wow. So sad but at the same time fortunate to have a Disco 2. Hope you doing well. This is another proof of the unstoppable truck. Godspeed.

Pretty scary! We had to flea from Irma and our only worries were lack of gas and traffic heading north. Glad to see that you guys and the truck made it out safe and sound.

Did you change your fluids after this? Would be wise.

That looks like an excellent reason to have a roof light bar. Looked dark. Hope everything works out for the people impacted by this. What a mess.

I did change the fluids (or at least tried). I lost my garage and tools so I took them both to a Jiffy Lube outside of the flooded area. After the LR3 started to rumble at the front as few weeks ago I took it to a Land Rover shop and they found the front diff oil had not been changed and it was full of water. New bearings... No way to prove it so chalk it up to experience. It wasn't quite as dark as the camera depicts and some streets still had power for the street lights. It was quite spooky with the headlights under the water. I did have to drill holes in one headlight and one driving light to get the water out of them. Other than that, no problems. All that said, a light bar would be good!
