This topic may have already been covered, but I have not found an answer to a specific question. I purchased a used remote to be used as a second unit for my 2014 LR4. I am sure that it is the proper unit to work with my car. My question is: Which key programmer will work best for this purpose? I have been looking at the SKP-900 key programmer, but read that it ruined the computer on one guy's car when he tried to program a remote with it. Does anyone have any experience programming a used remote? What do you recommend using to do so? I am hoping to save myself the $500+ expense of buying a second remote from the dealer. Thanks in advance.

I have used my IIDTool to program a second remote, and it has tons of other neat things you can do to your vehicle along with it. In fact the primary reason I bought it was because it cost the same as what the dealer wanted to charge to program a second key at the time.

Yeah, the IID Tool is almost a must own for any LR4 owner. If you are already looking to buy a key programmer, get the IID Tool. It may be a bit more expensive, but it performs so many tasks that you'll want it in the long run anyway.

As usual good and personally helpful info from this forum. I do have a somewhat lazy question - now that I have three colleagues with LR4s (woo though mine is still cooler than theirs),can we buy one IIDTool between us then all use it? Or is it VIN specific?

Yes, I am that frugal that I want to program another remote but want to get my buddies to share the cost of the tool if possible :)

Thanks in advance!

At the $500 price, it is VIN locked. However, you can have additional VIN's added for a fee of $80 each, i.e. if you owned multiple vehicles. But it would then be locked to only those VIN's.

Or, you can buy the Pro version which is not VIN locked, but costs $2200.

I saw a post on here somewhere that suggested a second company doing LR4 BCM programmers for a couple hundred cheaper. I went with the IID tool and it worked great for programming two additional eBay keys on mine. Paid for itself vs the dealer in that one afternoon and now I can toy around with the other car settings as well.

Thank you all for your answers to my query. I have ordered a Gap IIDtool and am looking forward to using it with my LR4. If I have other questions about my LR4, I know where to come for the answers.

OK. I have received my Gap IIDtool and would like to program a second remote for my 2014 LR4. I am not that terribly computer savvy and I could use some help. Could someone walk me through the procedure for doing so with the non-bluetooth version of the Gap tool? I have registered with Gap and updated the firmware on my tool. What's next?

Familiarize yourself on how to navigate the various menus and sub-menus of the tool using your steering wheel's cruise control buttons first. RTFM. :)

IIDTool Main Menu > Service / Test > BCM Body Control > Add A Key

Then, just follow the instructions that pop up on the TFT display, it only takes a minute to go through the programming routine for each key. I haven't done it in a while, but from recollection you need your original key (duh!) and the new spare fob you want to program with you in the car before you start. You push the lock or unlock button on the new remote when prompted and turn the ignition on/off once or twice... That's about it.

Thanks, umbertob. I did figure out how to do the key programming on my own; however, the process failed every time I attempted it. On talking to one of the engineers at GAP Tools, I was informed that key programming with the IIDTool will not work on newer LR4s. It seems that Land Rover made it so to reduce the risk of theft of vehicles. GAP is working on updating their software to allow key programming on newer LR4s, but it requires having the bluetooth version of the IIDTool, not the regular one like I purchased. After already spending $397 on the IIDTool, I am trying to decide if it is worth an additional $137 to upgrade to the BT version when I can just purchase a new key from the dealer for around $500. What do you think?
