Well during the brake job the other day, I noticed a clickity clackity noise when I did a cold start on the LR4 (2015 v6) last weekend. It sounds a bit like putting a baseball card in your spokes when you were a kid. I'm pretty close to the dealer so I drove it by but by the time I got there the noise was no longer present. But, when the tech popped the hood, the smell of coolant hit you right in the face.

So, took it in last night so it could sit and they could cold start it. Tech says it's the it's the timing chain and they are going to replace it. Sounds plausible. Unfortunately, they pressure tested the system and can't find the coolant leak. It smells for sure, it's oozing out somewhere, but no signs.

Any thoughts.

I dread having engine work of any kind. I guess it's time to think about an extended warranty on this beast as there is ZERO chance of getting my wife into any other vehicle.

Mine is in the shop (2014 LR4) for a coolant pump replacement. Losing about 2-3 qts of coolant every week. made the repairs and its still losing coolant. Will find out what got replaced again. First time hearing about a chain problem on the V6 let me know outcome is. Im also looking at various extended warranties. Only quote so far is from CarChex.

I am having similar coolant issues with my wife 2015 LR4. The dealership just replaced the crossover pipe, radiator fan, and thermostat. The morning after getting the car back the low coolant light was back on, but went off once the car was up to normal operating temp. my wife returned the car to the dealership and upon inspection he told her that the water pump needed to be replaced and since we were such VALUED customers they would take care of this ($1230 repair) as a "GOOD FAITGH" repair. He called me later and basically said that we are looking at a $26,000 repair. He said due to the overheating caused by the failure of the original crossover pipe that the engine would need to be replaced. This sounds like he must think I am an idiot.

What was the end result for the final repairs of your cooling system?

After all of the issues with the 5.0L V8 and the leaking water pump / crossover pipe to the point they had to release a TSB... how is this still a thing in the new SCV6 engines!??
