Ive had my truck since new in 2012 and it now has around 45k miles on it, so not too many. It has been taken cared for by my mechanic since new, he has been my mechanic for over 20+ years now. I found out just a month ago that he has been using Fuchs Supersyn 5W-40 oil in both my Range Rover and my LR3 HSE (4.4 NA V8). I have done a fair amount of digging and Im almost sure that using that oil is not any worse or better than using the 5W-20 recommended for the 5.0 SC V8 or the 5W-30 for the 4.4 NA V8. I wanted to see what you guys thought? Anything thoughts is great.

I also found this on a oil forum and thought was interesting.

Fuchs is good oil, that being said if its not giving you problems then you are probably good to go. weight diff is pretty close to be dramatically different.

I bet that 5-40wt oil is a lot lower on the 40 wt number due to normal oil breakdown especially at over 9K miles.
Great to read zinc and phosphorus numbers in the oil.
Zinc and phosphorus was banned in oil a couple years ago due causing reduced cat converter life. So they say, this just another EPA **** thing.
My thinking if it shortens cat life in my book that engine has oil ring control problems as well higher HC tailpipe readings from burning oil.
