I recently had my vehicle overheat. After doing some diagnosis have found my head gasket failed. I am in process of rebuilding and found block good, but heads need 24 thousandths removed for flatness. a few questions:

Can I take that much off and if so is there an oversized gasket available to use to maintain the right compression and specs?

If not, what are my options and where can I find new heads reasonably?

What else should be changed at same time other than water pump and timing chains?

Who has the best prices on these OEM parts?

Any knowledge anyone can pass on to make sure this doesn’t happen again as this is a major expense for something so simple as I stopped immediately upon overheating?

Any other help for this major undertaking is appreciated.

Thanks Chris

if you have the v8 5.0L engine i would also have the block checked. make sure its also straight not warped since its an all aluminum engine. you are probably better off replacing the engine with a good used one if you can find one. will probably cost about the same if you were to get it rebuild.

as for future reference just stay on top of the coolant. check the main components like the coolant manifold, water pump, or the coolant pipe running behind the heads.
