I did this when I was replacing the thermostat. So since I had this area torn apart I just took the throttle body off and cleaned the inside. Forget what I used but I think it was carburetor cleaner. Below is a link to thread with a video...
Well I tried turning the steering wheel with the vehicle off last night and did not hear any noises. I notice today, a clunk after I started driving again at a stop sign. It didn't repeat every time I stopped.
I went ahead and ordered the tie rod ends since they were showing signs of wear.
I did have the tires rotated and balanced but it didn't help any. I am getting oscillation in the steering wheel. I will try the test you mention tonight and let you guys know what I hear.
Thank you both for your help.
They have checked; the only thing they noted were the tie rod ends were showing signs of wear. I've taken the front tires off to take a look and the bearings and bushings appear to be good. I'll try replacing the tie rods to see if that helps first.
Hi all, I've had a vibration from the front end for awhile now. Over the past two months I've had the truck in the shop for a new compressor and 120k service and have asked the shop about the vibration but they keep telling me it's the tires. The tires have been wearing a little uneven on the...
I currently run 265/70r18 on my LR3 using Johnson Rods installed full time. The passanger side front tire rubs when turning. Usually between 3/4 and full lock. This can be annoying while driving on a windy road. It also rubs in the back while in Access Mode. I mention this because I have to...
It does have a 7-pin connector; however, cmb6s is correct. If a trailer is equipped with brakes than you will need a brake controller to be able to use the trailer brakes. Otherwise, you will be towing the trailer without the trailer brakes.
I'm pretty sure the defender can't be imported due to safety regulations. They are not equipped with air bags and probably a few other things and if they did meet safety regulations then the diesel probably could not be sold here. Similar to the LR4 diesel not being sold here. The engine...
Yes the oil buildup is normal. I did the same repair earlier this year. I removed the throttle body and cleaned while everything else was off. Before doing this the LR3 would idle rough...this completely fixed it.
I would suggest cleaning while everything is apart.
David,
Great writeup. The time frame it took to complete sounds reasonable, since it's not something you do everyday. It really does look good, can't wait to see it in person.
Keep me posted when you head down to Hollister next. I have family coming in town in May and June so July...
I use one similar to this. Picked it up from Home Depot. It's not water proof put will fit long ways with one of the third row seats up. It's also sturdy enough to sit on. Probably stand on also but haven't tried. I believe it was about $40 - $50.
The wiring harness is a very simple install. You just have to remove one of the tail lights and route the harness down to the back. If you don't mind crawling on the ground you can do it in 30 minutes.
If your trailer has electric brakes you will have to get a separate trailer brake...
Do a search on the LR3 forum. I remember reading that some guys found either a 7" or 8" portable navigation (like a Garmin) that they were able to mount in the location of the cubby hole (where the navigation screen is on navigation equipped models) and run power to it, so it gave it the stock...
Yes, I was going to mention this, be careful when pulling off the A-pillar cover. The plastic does break easily. On the LR3 the plastic cover is held on with clips on the top and bottom and I managed to break the top clip when removing. However, I was not too worried because the snorkel bolts...
I just noticed a post over in the LR3 page that pastureboy has an ARB front bumper. You may be able to PM him to ask any questions. Here's the link:
