New Recall Alert : Fuel System

$1300 to replace rear pads is criminal. $300 is more than it should be.

Selling RRS with blown head gasket

With that mileage and needing such an expensive repair, it's probably worth more in parts than as a whole.

    Roof rail installation trouble

You should be fine. One of my LR4s only had 3 bolts holding both sides and I used it with a ski box for an entire winter, commuting 250 miles each way every weekend. I was nervous at first but it was rock solid. The following summer I welded a bolt to the broken off bolt and managed to get it...

    Roof rail installation trouble

I’ve done this job 4 times. I would consider myself a very competent DIY mechanic doing everything up to transmission overhauls and timing chains. However all 4 of these turned into a saga with broken bolts, broken thread cleaners, cracked roof glass or drill bits stuck in the holes. I’d be very...

Replacement of passenger airbag in 2016 LR4

Thanks, I ended up having to pull the whole dash forward about 2 inches to get the airbag out. Took about 8 hours and I have a few screws left over despite careful reassembly.

Replacement of passenger airbag in 2016 LR4

I bought a project 2016 LR4 3.0 with minor front end damage. Both driver and passenger airbags deployed despite little more damage than a bent front lower control arm and a cracked headlight. The drivers airbag is easy to replace, but the passenger side looks tough. Do I need to remove the...

Is a d5 a great deal right now?

I could hardly do worse than LR is already doing.

Is a d5 a great deal right now?

We don't need 3 segments. We need Range Rover (private school crowd) to provide profits to build the Defender (rugged utility yet comfortable D4 replacement) plus maybe a LR2 replacement Defender Sport.

How are roof rail nuts/thread secured?

I ended up breaking 2 bolts flush with the nuts. I tried various EZouts and screw extractors, reverse thread drill bits etc with not much luck. I finally welded a bolt to the broken bolt and got it out, but it was not pretty. Then the thread chaser snapped off in the thread when I was cleaning...

    Move on or Fix

I'd fix the transmission myself. I recently did it on my previous 2005 LR3 with 155k miles. Very jerky shifts, slipping in lower gears then slamming into gear. I bought a solenoid kit, anti-slip fluid and the Atlantic British BMW oil pan conversion and service kit. I drained the oil, pulled...

    Considering Discovery 5 Purchase..

It looks like a good replacement, but I cannot get over the exterior design. Looks far too much like a Ford Exploder. I think I will stick with the LR4 until the Defender comes out.

LR4 Transmission oil change... mixed feelings.

No transmission removal or messing with rings and seals required. Most of the work is just dropping the pan, which I did by cutting the neck off the old one and converting to the metal pan. Once the pan is dropped, the mechatronic unit is immediately visible and is the next part that drops out...

Coolant leak on 2011 LR4... Water pump failure?

Chances are 50/50 that it is the water pump or crossover. The parts are relatively inexpensive, I would do both to be sure.

    Transmission problem on LR3 2015

Is it a 2005 LR3 or a 2015 LR4? Either way, I would investigate transmission fluid level and recommend a fluid and filter change, with a simultaneous upgrade to the transmission pan so you don't need to drop the exhaust and raise the engine to replace them.

KEY FOB OPENED THE WRONG LR3!!!

Pretty sure that the other LR3 needed the locking system wire repair under the passenger side rocker cover plate. I have done that repair on all my LR3's, as the rear of the car stopped locking and the remote fob didn't work.

I believe I got mine from http://www.thectsc.com but FCP Euro and a bunch of others also sell them

LR4 Transmission oil change... mixed feelings.

The jerkiness is sometimes caused by the solenoids on the mechatronic body just inside the pan. I bought a $300 kit to replace all of mine and the jerkiness was entirely cured. It was so rough before that it was close to undriveable. I did this myself on my garage floor, no specialist tools or...

Potential Purchase of 05 LR3 with issues

The rough shifting may be a cheapish fix. I recently fixed a LR3 transmission with 155k miles that was both slipping and suffering very rough jerky shifts. I pulled the transmission pan out, pulled the mechatronic unit and and replace all the solenoids for about $300. When reassembling, I used a...

2016 LR4 and Liftmaster garage + slide gate opener

I had to hold my 1&3 buttons for 30 secs until I got the fast blinking that reset the Homelink in the car. Then I pressed and held the remote opener button whilst pressing and holding button 1 on the car for about 5 seconds and it programmed first time. After I programmed the remote control to...

Anyone change a front interior parking sensor?

yes, there is. In the center of the dashboard next to the passenger heated seat button, there should be a button that looks like a letter P emitting signals to a tree. Press that to enable or disable the sensors. It comes on automatically when you put the car in reverse though.

Any updates to this? I have the Land Rover SDD computer, but can't find the option to enable MPH in the digital display on the cluster.

    Saying goodbye to an albatross

I just did this same job myself in December, replacing the water pump at the same time as a precaution. My old water pump was fine (57k miles), but the o rings on the oil cooler tube were leaking. Should have cost me only $10 to do the work, but I ended up spending around $350. At least I have a...

    Engine Light

I replaced my thermostat housing and got a new coolant sensor with that one. In the month since replacing it, I have had a couple more P0116 coolant codes thrown, so I ordered the lower coolant sensor (LR065234) and am in the process of installing it by the oil filter. However, when I removed...

    Saying goodbye to an albatross

While I appreciate you have spent some money on your Land Rover, that list of things just looks like routine maintenance for a complex 75k mile vehicle to me (well maybe should have needed only 1 water pump instead of 2). If you want to see long lists of failures, go talk to a BMW owner who has...
