Are you kidding me? Is that the long-awaited Defender re-boot? What a joke. I was kind of hoping it would be something like the retro-defender. That POS just looks like a smaller D5 with less room on the inside. STUUUUPPPPIIIIID.

Back in 2009, early test mules of the then-unreleased Range Rover Evoque looked like out-of-proportion, chopped off Freelanders. Here is one such test mule example I found online:

Of course, the end result turned out to be quite different. So, there's hope we are just looking at a very early prototype Defender chassis with the modified shell of a Disco / Range Rover Sport thrown on top of it.... although McGovern comments don't sound too promising for fans of Defender's classic style (I am among those.)

Meanwhile, the aftermarket has identified the ugliest part of the new Discovery (the rear end) and is coming up with fixes. Here is one that looks promising, although it will probably cost a bundle to retrofit:

Well that 2009 Freelanderish Evoque gives me hope! I like the D5 tailgate insert, it does look better that way.

i hope its a baby disco body on the mule, testing other components.

Otherwise I am going to be legit depressed. This mcgovern guy is killing me.

What LR executive of sane mind would put the Defender badge on what looks to be a souped up Freelander. Just lunacy. It's like we've stepped back to the late 70s.
